Whole grains are so healthy for you because they contain the bran, germ, and endosperm that naturally occur in the grain seed. That means they're full of fiber, protein, and other essential nutrients.

To make whole grains even healthier, while at the same time adding a little more flavor, color, and exciting texture, add chopped veggies while they're cooking. Add carrots and zucchini to your rice, or peas and broccoli to your quinoa. Add the veggies when the grains have about five to 10 minutes cooking time left, so the veggies are tender but not mushy. Use the cooked grain in your favorite dishes and it's a great way to consume more veggies.

Great tip, I love to do this!
1this is really good and you get the added benefit of texture in your meal - so what's better than that? really?
2Wow, that looks really good!
3Always do this, although I eat veggies all the time, even for breakfast! Tomatoes are especially gentle in the morning, cabbage, not so much!
4That looks so yummy! Like a healthy version of risotto.
5Such a good idea! I'll be doing this from now on!!!
6Great idea. I had some mixed veggies in the freezer. Microwaved them for about 2 minutes and added them to some brown teriyaki rice. So good!
7Yum!
8One of my favorite meals is brown rice and lima beans with a little 2% mozzerella cheese to make it sticky. Its yummy. Wish I were having that now!
9I made rice with peas and kidney beans tonight cooked in coconut milk&veg stock. Works well!
