Yogurt is a versatile food that can be made from so many different types of milk: soy, goat, and even water buffalo. Just when you thought there couldn't be any more options, a new yogurt pops up made from coconut milk. Since I'm a huge fan of yogurt for breakfast or for a preworkout snack, I had to give this So Delicious Coconut Milk Yogurt ($1.69) a try. It's dairy-, soy-, and gluten-free, so it's a great alternative for people who have food allergies.

Want to know how it compares to other yogurt? Then read more.
Check out the chart below. I compared coconut milk yogurt to regular cow's milk yogurt, since that's what most people eat.

First off, let me say that I really liked the strong vanilla flavor of this creamy yogurt. It tasted very decadent, almost like dessert. The consistency was thicker than soy yogurt, but not as thick as Greek yogurt. The only thing I wasn't a fan of was the waxy, almost oily sensation it left on my tongue and teeth. If you can't eat yogurt made from cow's milk or soy milk, this is a tasty alternative because it contains six active and live cultures, 30 percent of your RDI for vitamin B12 (good news for vegans and vegetarians), and calcium. It would probably make a healthy alternative to whole milk or cream in baked goods as well, but this coconut milk yogurt is a little too low in protein for me to eat on its own. As you can see from the chart, there are definitely healthier alternatives that offer more protein, less fat, and fewer calories. |

The greek yogurt is the best bet. Thre coconut has 6 grams of saturated fat compaired to the other yogurts.
1I love the So Delicious products!
2OoOooo I might have to try this!
3Send this to Canada! I'm sure we don't have it here but I can't have yogurt and would love this.
4I just want coconut flavored yogurt - is that so much to ask?
5$1.68 for 6 ounces? And it has more calories than regular yogurt? Um, I'll pass. I guess it's a nice option for those that are lactose intolerant, but I'll stick with my 35 cent/containers of Light and Fit.
6It has more calories and isn't a significant source of protein...no thanks.
7I've tried it and wasn't crazy about it. The texture is gelatinous. I thought it'd be coconutty. It wasn't. At least I'll always have pina colada yogurt!
8oh i love coconut milk! i never thought there would be yogurt made out of coconut milk
from where i live, indonesia, we have lotsa desserts and cakes (even main dish) using coconut milk, so i am really familiar with it!
yes, it has more calories because of the fat content, but i hope it's still good fats
9Pass. Each of those yogurts provides 30% of the RDA for saturated fat. It's awfully high, and it's from the coconut milk. The sugar level is very high, too. It's the third ingredient on the label. Sorry, this is not nutritious enough for me.
10ooo sounds yummy. love coconut.
11All of these people should look up the benefits of coconut milk and how it can actually aide weight loss. Read the studies, saturated fats from coconut milk are way better for you then the light crap that you're eating. I'm going to buy this for my son who is allergic to dairy and soy. After research I will be adding it to my health and weight maintenance regimen. Thanks!!
