As a Pilates instructor, one of the most valuable lessons I teach is how to sit and stand properly. Yes, the 100s are a great ab exercise, but folks sit and stand all day long, easily undoing their hard work. Poor posture can lead to many overuse injuries and, on the vanity side of things, make you look shorter and 10 pounds heavier.
Since none of us can afford to have a Pilates instructor poke our spines into place 24/7, two physicians collaborated on the iPosture ($65). It is a small device that you clip to your bra, wear on a necklace, or stick on your upper chest with adhesive that vibrates when you slouch.
Surprisingly effective, the little electronic device, a bit over inch in diameter and practically weightless, contains a nanosensor. You set iPosture once you are in your desired posture, and when you deviate three degrees from that posture, the device vibrates, reminding you to correct. To see what I thought of iPosture after wearing it for a couple of days, read more.
I thought that wearing this device would be annoying, but it wasn't at all. As you can see, it's quite small. The iPosture is so unobtrusive, you don't feel it until you slump and the gizmo vibrates. The vibration is completely quiet, so nobody can hear it.

Wearing iPosture, I learned that I slouch much more than I thought, and when I am stressed my posture tends to be worse. After wearing it for a couple of days, I noticed that my neck wasn't as sore after working on a computer all day long. The iPosture comes with two replacement batteries and many adhesive stickers if you opt to wear it on your chest. The device comes with a free gift — I would opt for the book Young, Sexy and Healthy: The Ten Best Exercises For Your Posture.
If you suffer from back, neck, wrist, or shoulder pain, iPosture can help by teaching you to stand and sit correctly. You can buy the device here. I know that $65 seems like a lot for such a simple device, but not when you consider that the going rate in SF for a 55-minute session with an experienced rehab specialist Pilates instructor is $75 to $85.

I am definitely interested in this. I think it's great and I was told that you work out your abs if you sit properly. So it's like you not only correcting your posture but working those abs as well. I like that!!!
1I LOVE my iPosture! I wore it for a week straight and felt good enough to go "on my own", and here and there wear it if I am stressed or am having back/neck pains.
2I think I need/want this. It's like having your mother their to remind to you stand up straight and not slouch.
*Slouching at my desk as I type this...
3Awesome! Thank you for posting this. I was curious about this item.
4I like the idea of this, but if you are reaching for something or bending over or leaning over a desk or something, wouldn't it vibrate? I sit at my desk a lot but I am also up and reaching for things and I would think that would be annoying to have ti vibrate all of the time.
5I could use one of these. It would be like channeling my mom 24/7. lol
6I want one!! I know my posture is horrible when it comes to sitting at my desk here at home.
7i really need this. i think i've slouched all 22 years of my life.
8Hmm. I might have to think about this.
9Interesting. I'd love to try this out. I have terrible posture while at my desk.
10I think I could really benefit from this! I know my posture is horrible and can feel it in my back, shoulders, and neck at the end of the day.
11Hey all,
The iPosture will vibrate after you have been out of your ideal posture for 60 seconds. So you can bend and move around, but when you settle into slouching or slumping it will vibrate to remind you to correct your posture.
12Oh! That's even cooler!!
13ditto urban chic 101.
i'm going to HAVE TO invest in one of these babies.
my mom's ALWAYS getting on to me, "Sit up straight.", "Shoulders back, Honey." You know...
14That looks awesome.
15If I had the money I would totally want this!!
16Stupid economy. I would love this!
17Just go buy a corset, after a couple of weeks your posture will be better (even while not wearing it).
