I just put myself through one hectic health care week. I went to the dentist, my OB/Gyn for my annual visit, and the optometrist. It was busy, but great to check all those appointments off my list. While none of these activities are anything I would consider fun, I am wondering which you would rather do: Get a pap smear, get a shot of novocaine, or get your eyes dilated?

pap smear is WAY more comfortable than either of the other two choices because when you leave the doctor's office it's over. Your lip is numb and you're drooling everywhere and your eyes don't feel terrible like you're blind and sore.
1I think a pap smear is the least uncomfortable... but I must have an amazing OB-Gyn. Shots in my mouth scare me (but shots anywhere else don't), and anything involving your eyes is a little frightening too.
Congrats on being responsible! Those appointments are important to keep!
2The pap smear is the least uncomfortable to me.
3I wish I was this responsible! I want to go schedule a dentist appt. now!
Well, maybe later, it's Saturday and a lot of them are closed, haha.
Personally, the shot of novocaine [or lidocaine w/o ephedrine, in my case, I get really jittery] is the least uncomfortable for me. You just have to get a dentist that is dextrous and knows their stuff. They numb up my gums for a while first, and then shoot it in - PAINLESS! Sure, the drooling is a little annoying...but not NEARLY as uncomfortable as a pap smear! I HATE getting those...but anything for my health, right? D:
Eye dilations aren't painful, but they upset me. I need my glasses to see anything, so hanging out in the mall with googly-eyes and not being able to see where I'm going or what I'm shopping for is really bothersome.
4Smear test. I don't mind getting them at all.
5My thoughts exactly Bella14Stella! Sure, a pap smear may not be the most amazing experience, but at least once you leave, that's it. I hate when your mouth starts regaining feeling after novocain, and I hate the blurry vision when you get your eyes dilated.
6I don't know.. to me, I don't think any of these are all that bad. They are just normal, routine things you get done to make sure you're healthy. Well, maybe not the novocain shot, but it helps!
7arghhh don't remind me... need the pap smear as well.
8I can't believe people actually choose pap smear...Give me any appt where I keep my pants on please. Novocaine doesn't bother me but I know its worse for some people. Eye appt definitely the easiest to go through for me.
9None are terribly comfortable, but getting the eyes dilated is the least painful, and you don't get anything put up your you know what! ha ha ha This reminds me that I need to make an eye appointment. I just went to the Dentist and my yearly Pap is in June!
10Pap smear -- the least evil. I think this is mainly due to my good doctor.
11I hate having pap smears, I chose the novocaine because atleast it doesn't hurt when it's done.
12I don't really mind going to the optometrist and getting my eyes dilated. As long as I remember to grab my sunglasses before I leave, I'm good. I guess getting my pap smear would be second, because my doctor's really good and has a nice SMALL speculum that doesn't hurt. I wouldn't mind the dentist ordinarily, but I hate getting fillings. The numbness always lasts too long and the novocaine shot is never painless.
13Ew, ew, EW! All of those things I hate. Needles put the fear of God into me, but messing around with my eyes makes me faint and pap smears leave me "not quite right" for about 3 days. I *guess* I'd choose the novocaine, at least I can't feel much.
Yeah, I'm the uber-wuss in some ways.
14omg i cannot believe anyone would chose get a papsmear--that is my LEAST fave thing to do in the world. im i shock that people find this the lesser of the evils! SHOCK! how can you compare having to take off all your clothes and lay there to a few drops in your eye!?!?
haha, i hate shots, but have to get my eyes dilated all the time b/c of a ton of eye/migraine issues so its no biggie to me at all.
15Happsmjc, speaking only for myself, I prefer a pap smear over all those other tests because of our trusted, family doctor. He's treated our family for decades. There is complete comfort and trust (even with all clothes removed). Also, he is very capable and careful. Over the years, he's taken very good care of me and my family.
I don't have the same longevity and experiences with other healthcare professionals. They're all very good, with all due respect to them. I just don't have the same history with them (as of yet) as I do with our family physician.
16Speaking of that, I need to go to all three of those doctors and the dermatologist and the general phys sometime in the near future...oh and my dog needs shots. Moving to a different state in about a month though, so I guess better to wait til then. I don't mind going to the eye doctor or the OB/GYN, I HATE the dentist though
17i HATE HATE HATE getting pap spears.
18Pap smears aren't so bad.
19Funny you should mention this type of double booking! The other day I got a pap smear and a Brazillian wax on the same day. It was like open house day in my vajayjay. Ha!
20jadenirvana - rofl, get it all done in the one day and then you don't need to think about it after that! =)
I think I would HONESTLY be more scared to have a wax done down there than a doctor stick something in! I always have a female doctor or nurse for my pap smears and I know it could save my life for the sake of 30 seconds.
Sitting in the dentists chair is UNLIKELY to have an effect on my life. Well, toothache I guess...
All this Jade Goody stuff has made me realise how greatful I am that I went for a pap smear only a few months ago after putting it off for 10 yrs. It was clear but it's such an IMPORTANT and VITAL test that so many women delay because of nerves.
21Ugh, I hate them all!
1. Being a woman sucks sometimes
2. Man, that hurts and leaves you numb afterward, so you can eat or drink
3. My eyes usually get really sensitive to sunlight after this, so I can't drive.
They all stink!
22I thought I was the only one who didn't mind getting a smear! I mean, the very first one was scary, but after that it never bothered me.
23Yea i agree the pap smear is the least uncomfortable for me. I went to the dentist friday to have a wisdom tooth pulled and the novacaine hurt horribly and i'm still in pain 5 days later... I've also had my eyes dilated before and I felt sick to my stomache afterwards, and I had a migraine for hours...
24I would usually choose Pap smear as the least of the evils, but last time I had one something went awry and I bled; had to leave the place wearing a pad (it was not my period). Not to scare y'all, it didn't hurt any more than usual and was still worth it to get more birth control!
I'll have to go with the Novacaine.
25I'd take the eye appointment out of all three of them
26i have to say that i'd rather NOT have novacaine, and the eyes thing isn't really my choice either. the first option, that was is the least painful/awkward for the shortest amount of time.
27WOW I wish I had your doctor, ladies!
I'd take everything but a pap smear. And that's a life statement.
28I HATE getting a pap smear. I curl up and do nothing for the rest of the week after one of those. I don't mind going to the dentist but getting a shot at the dentist is pretty terrible. I would say the eye appointment however my pupils work backwards so it hurts something horrible when I go to the eye doctor.
29Did I mention I don't do any sort of pain very well?
Ha this was awesome. Pap smear all the way.
30100% agree with Advah!
31i'd rather go to the dentist. pap smears hurt and last time i went i got abnormal results so now i have to go more often. i hate getting my eyes dilated, those hurt too.
32Pap smears have gotten much less painful in the last couple of years since they updated the equipment.
I hate needles - one in the gums would be the worst thing for me!
I get my eyes tested every year but it's always a pleasant, comfortable experience. Either they're not dilating my eyes or maybe it just doesn't bother me!
