When you're fast asleep in your cozy cave-like bedroom, it's tempting to hit the snooze button a couple times in order to catch up on a few more minutes of shut-eye. They're fragmented bits of sleep though since the sound of your alarm is constantly interrupting you. So instead of trying to get back to that dream where you embarrassingly showed up naked at the gym, use your time more wisely by stretching in bed. Stretch your hamstrings, your lower back, your abs, and your neck. It'll slowly wake you up from your deep slumber, and it'll invigorate your muscles so you'll feel ready to spring out of bed instead of having to drag yourself out of it.

This is such a great tip! I am the ultimate snoozer. I have to set an alarm far from my night table so I get up and turn it off, and even then, I end up getting up, turning it off and getting back in bed. I've found stretching when I get up, or when I get back in bed really helps me wake up, open my eyes and realize it's time to get the day started.
but it feels so good to just lay there!!
I don't usually hit the snooze button, but lately I have been stretching my legs out before getting out of bed just after my alarm goes off. It helps get me limbered up for my workout.
this is such a great idea! i am always snoozing and can't wait to try this tomorrow.
That is a good idea! Sounds more productive than pulling out my phone.
I stretched this morning instead of my usual 10-min power nap before seriously waking up and it made me soooo awake i hopped out of bed!
Years ago I had a yoga teacher that told me to stretch every part of yourself before you get out of bed. She said it was just too rough and abrupt on your body to hop out of bed without getting the blood flowing. I start with laying on my back, and putting my arms straight up, wiggling my fingers, rotating my wrists & elbows, doing shoulder rolls, twisting my abs, moving my legs, rotating my ankles and wiggling my toes... I'm so much more awake and will get moving immediately, rather than slumping around, and piddling around the house, not feeling like getting my day started.
Great idea!
Sometimes if I stretch my legs in the morning I get leg cramps - which do get me out of bed pretty quickly because standing up relieves the pain - but I have a feeling that's not what's intended, lol. http://littlemissjay.wordpress.com/
I always do it and love it. I nicknamed it my morning cat stretch.
love to stretch my legs in the morning until my toes curl. the only way to start a day!
have you noticed that young kids do that without any reminders or recommendations from websites or magazines? it's because they know on primal level that it's very good for you. we should really take notice what kids do, as they are in harmony with nature and hhaven't been spoiled by stupid believes (like when my dad would make me eat everything together, though i prefered to eat meat first, then salad, than potatoes).
