It may be March, but we're still not over cold and flu season yet. If you're feeling ill, you may want to call in sick to work, but if your symptoms are severe, what you really might need is a visit to your doctor. According to FamilyDoctor.org, adults should call their doctors when:
- Your temperature is above 102°F for a few days
- Symptoms last more than 10 days, or they seem to get worse instead of better
- You have trouble breathing or shortness of breath
- You experience chest pressure or pain
- You feel like you're about to faint
- Symptoms include confusion or disorientation
- You experience severe or persistent vomiting
- You have severe pain in the head or forehead
- You have hoarseness, sore throat, or a cough that won't go away after 10 days
Your doctor may make some recommendations for things to do at home, or she may request you come in for an appointment. Most likely, your cold or flu will go away on its own, but if you're concerned, it's worth getting your doctor's advice just to be sure.

If you go to the doctor as soon as you feel flu-like symptoms come on, he/she can do a Rapid Xpect Flu test on you and you'll know if you have the flu in about 15 minutes. If you test positive, you can take Tamiflu, which for a lot of people really helps shorten the duration of the virus and helps your symptoms tremendously.
1You should also go if your has been stuffed up for days and the only thing you can smell is a rotting booger smell. gross but its a sinus infection which can get worse.
2It is always important to see a medical professional when you have the symptoms mentioned but one of the best things you can do is keep your immune system strong so that you don't have to go in the first place.
Sambucol Black Elderberry has been shown in clinical trials to help boost the immune system. The elderberry also has one of the highest levels of antioxidants of any berry, which can contribute to overall health.
3I hate being sick!!
4lindssaurus--If you keep your nose unstuffed-up by using a Netipot or a saline nasal spray and taking an OTC decongestant (Sudafed is one of the best...just ask for it at the pharmacy counter), you can get over a sinus infection without antibiotics. Bacteria thrive in the mucus in your nose, so if you keep the mucus out of there, they won't do as well and you'll get over the infection a lot quicker.
