For years, weight loss experts have been weighing in on the most effective way to shed pounds, and a new study hopes to put the kibosh on all the banter about bulge. The largest-ever controlled study of weight loss methods came to a conclusion after two years, and the results speak for themselves: when it comes to losing weight, the diet you follow doesn't matter, but the amount of calories you consume does.
According to The New York Times, the New England Journal of Medicine study assigned 800 overweight adults one of four diets that cut 750 calories from their typical intake through different combinations of fat, carbohydrates, and protein. Participants consumed at least 1,200 calories a day and after two years, the majority had lost and regained the same amount of weight. The results suggest it's not the diet you choose, but rather your ability to remain committed to it. The study's lead author commented, "It really does cut through the hype. It gives people lots of flexibility to pick a diet that they can stick with."

interesting!
the bottom line is very true, people should pick a diet/lifestyle they can stick with, because losing weight is a rather long-term process
but i still believe that different source of calories will result different too
1I have such a problem with this. The food you eat does matter - i.e., if you eat one bag of potato chips a day, you will lose weight for sure BUT it will certainly NOT bode well for your health!
If one eats healthy and exercises, weight loss becomes a side effect - it is that easy!
2Breaking news! The way to lose weight is...eat fewer calories!
When will people learn.
3modus,
4Yeah, it's not exactly rocket science. You eat fewer calories and you lose weight. But in order to be able to stay on a low calorie diet long-term, you have to choose foods that give you a lot of satisfaction for the amount of calories that you consume. Sure, you could eat 1500 calories' worth of potato chips in a day, but you'd be a lot healthier and you'd feel a lot more satisfied if you consumed 1500 calories' worth of fruits, veggies, protein, etc.
5duh !
6I kind of already thought so - which is why I'm really really trying to cut down the binge eating! But I am a stress eater, sad but true.
7Thanks for the informative article. It just seems like the world has turned obese at such a fast pace it really is scary. I have struggled with weight for my whole life and finally have a grip on it after 30 years of suffering from diet-itis!! It really helps to know what you are doing and you don't have to work nearly as hard when you do. Go to this site http://kevkev227.stripfat.hop.clickbank.net/ It was recommended to me by a friend and it really changed my thinking and helped me turn the tide and finally lose weight and keep it off without the constant struggle and fluctuations. I have lost over 50 lbs and kept it off. I finally have enough energy to keep up with my children. Best of luck to every one of you who knows what it is like to struggle to lose weight...hope this makes your life easier!!
8I think the reason people have trouble with low-cal diets is because they don't eat the right foods. like people have said, you can eat only potato chips for a day and lose weight, but you won't be satisfied and you certainly won't be healthy. But if you have lean protein, whole grains, vegetables, fruits, low or non-fat dairies, etc., you'll be more full on lower calories.
