This whole peanut butter recall has really put a damper on my peanut-butter-loving life. I know not all peanut butter has been recalled, but truthfully, I've used avoiding peanut butter as an excuse to branch out. One positive outcome from this salmonella scare is that I rediscovered my love for crunchy almond butter, and recently tried walnut butter for the first time.

So don't fret about losing peanut butter. To see the nutritional breakdown of some interestingly tasty peanut-free alternatives read more.

i've tried cashew and almond (DELICIOUS) but I'm intrigued by hempseed butter, pumpkin seed butter, and hazelnut butter, although hazelnut is a little low in protein.
Soynut Butter takes pretty good,, and I eat it instead of almond butter (my fave) because it has so much protein. But looks like I need to try hempseed butter. Has anyone tried it?
i hated Maranatha's brand of Almond and Peanut butter.
i'm a peanut butter fanatic, and as much as i like the alternatives that you've listed, i can't go that route. i've been sticking with the brands that seem to be safe so far, and hopefully things will get sorted out soon so that we don't have to stress about this anymore!
Hempseed Butter looks like a winner! I have to try it!
Still eating mine
You can also try making your own peanut butter... it's super easy. Just put some peanuts in a food processor and add sugar &/or salt to taste. Blend until it is a shiny paste. I like to use honey roasted peanuts!
I love my almond butter! Soy nut is pretty good too, but I haven't tried any others yet.
Last time I got cashew butter, so good! Next to try is almond butter, hazelnut sounds really good too!
Justin's maple almond butter!! So good.
i agree, justin's maple almond butter is pretty good! cashew butter is good too.
I love almond and cashew butter! Problem is they need to be refrigerated after opening. How do you spread rock hard nut butter on anything? It's impossible.
Baby Girl - I always heat mine up in the microwave for a just a few seconds to make it spreadable
I like making my own almond butter at home using almonds and a little oil and sugar and a blender. It's not as tough as it looks or seems.

It's peanuts with most of the oil pressed out, so it comes in powder form, and you rehydrate it with water (or milk, but that adds calories). It's very similar to smooth peanut butter in the end, but only has 50 calories per 2 TBS serving. It comes in chocolate too! Their products were not part of the recall process.
Fresh pecan butter is what heaven tastes like! I've tried hazelnut, not a big fan. Some brands of almond butter are better than others. Like someone said above me, making your own nut butters is really easy. A (good) blender works fine too (as long as you have a spatula to get it out!!), go to the bulk section of your grocery store of choice and get a bunch of your favorite nut to blend up, sprinkle salt or sweetener to taste, reuse an old PB jar and enjoy!
Peanut butter is a good way to raise serotonin levels (to prevent migraines or PMS) - so do any of the alternatives do that? That's the only way you could get me to switch =)
hmm... never heard of Golden Pea Butter
Hazelnut - I love Nutella! I never ate peanut butter before the recall...
Almond butter sounds divine though!
I still stick with the peanut butter route, but in the organic & locally made ones that has all the oil on top.
sunflower seed butter is my favorite, it has a sweeter taste than peanut butter and i like it so much that i barely ever use peanut butter!
I'm always looking for an alternative just because of the fact I'm allergic to peanuts, tree nuts, and almonds. It sucks
sunflower seed butter is my favorite. my husband is partial to almond butter. either way, it is organic all the way!
Unless you are allergic to peanut butter. Why not just have some peanut butter. (None of the major brands were implacated in the recall)
I have a magic bullet, which I use every day to grind coffee beans.... I think I'll try it by making some of my own almond butter! Cool idea!
