You may spend 20 minutes working your abs every other day, but you sit at a desk for hours upon upon hours a week. If you slouch at that desk, you are quite possibly undoing all your hard at the gym strengthening your abs and back. When you slouch, all your hard work slouches with you. Slumped over a keyboard, your abs essentially turn off and your back muscles get tired from being overstretched. Your core exercise should affect your everyday habits. Not only does this posture look bad, it feels bad too and can lead to all sorts of repetitive stress injures, like carpal tunnel, associated with desk jobs.
So take a second to check your seated posture and sit tall, with your shoulders away from your ears and your spine straight. Why not take a moment to do some at your desk ab work?

I always slouch... Thanks for reminding me to sit up straight!
1I have horrible posture. I'll work on it much harder now that I know it might help my abs, too.
2No slouching!
3Yikes! I am SO guilty of this! I think my "less than flat" abs have a lot to do with all the sitting I do, but the slouch makes it a double whammy. Shame on me!
4Ugh, this is so depressing.
5Yeah, that is something I always forget about, especially when I really get into something at work. Bah!
6I don't get to sit much at work, but I know that sometimes when I sit for long periods of time, I do slouch. I just thought it LOOKED sloppy; I didn't know it could undo all your ab work. No more slouching for me!
7You should post this daily. Both times I've come across it today I've straightened up.
8My husband got me this for my birthday:

It's a little disk you wear on your bra and it vibrates when you slouch.
9I like the little reminder you have there, Runner. My goodness I am at a desk an inhumane number of hours a day, and 9/10ths of those hours are spent with crummy posture! Fit, now that I my vanity is at stake, I will be sitting up straight!
10sloucher here. now i have another reason not to do it.
11this is a good reminder!
thanks fit..
i'll (try) not (to) slouch again
12I slouch waaaaaaaaaaaay too much. I also loved that little exhale exercise. I just did it!
13Use one of those yoga balls and sit on that while at work. Since you have to engage your muscles to stay balanced on the ball, you strengthen your core but it helps you sit straight because since you sink down when you sit on the ball, it forces you to keep your chest out and sit straight up.
