The peanut butter salmonella issue grows bigger and bigger daily. Products connected with Peanut Corporation of America are being recalled left and right, and
it's not over yet. The Texas Department of State Health Services ordered a recall of all products ever shipped from Peanut Corporation's now-closed plant in Plainview, TX. This plant was inspected after health code violations were found at its Georgia plant. Officials were disgusted to find dead rodents, rodent droppings, and bird feathers in a crawl space above a production area in the Texas plant, which had been operating unlicensed and without an inspection in nearly four years. This is more disturbing news tacked on to a long chain of events that has led to nearly 600 sickened people and nine deaths.
Over 2,000 peanut products have been recalled, making this one of the largest product recalls ever. It sickens me to think that Peanut Corp. owner Stewart Parnell allowed contaminated products to be shipped anyway, saying in an email that "tests discovering the contaminated food were 'costing us huge $$$$$.'" How sad is it that so many people have suffered because of this man's greed? This salmonella incident has also affected people's general opinions of peanut butter, and many are avoiding all peanut butter products for fear of getting sick. Are you?

I hadn't been avoiding all products, but as this peanut butter thing grows and especially with this new plant, I just might. *shudder*
1That is GROSS. But I only buy Jif PB, and they're in the clear.
2I just bought pb today cause I have been craving pb and j sandwiches. I had to go to the skippy site to make sure I didnt just waste my money, and they're in the clear too.
3Still eating my Jif, but that's it.
4I'll stick with my almond butter..
5This might be a good time I get myself some almond butter. I saw one cheaper than the usual price the other day.
6I'm still eating mine.
7I can't give up my creamy JIF.
8I hope they send that sleeze bucket to jail.
9I'm not eating anything that includes PB as an ingredient, but I'm still eating plain PB. I only buy Arrowhead Mills Creamy Honey Peanut Butter and they haven't been recalled, so I'm not worried. We also ate the PB larabars we already had and we're fine.
10Forget what I said. What I really want to do is get a big bag of almonds from Costco so I can make my own almond butter. I haven't really been craving peanut butter though, so I don't mind not having any.
11i think that what he did is really inexcusable - but i guess that's a sentiment that's being shared by just about everyone. i'm a PEANUT BUTTER FANATIC - so this is especially scary for me, but i have to say that i'm being selective about what i eat, but not avoiding the food all together. i'm afraid that i'll eat something that makes me sick, but imagine having the only food you eat go away...that's how it is for me.
12OMG, he actually admitted that they didn't do QC because of the cost?? What a flipping moron! You can't just NOT test food that you're selling to people. I used to work for a food company that had it's own micro department, so all our products were definitely tested before any shipments ever went out. The owner of this company's definitely going to go to jail...he KNOWINGLY sent out product without testing it! I just hope he has to serve his time and doesn't just end up settling out of court.
13i've been using cashew butter lately, but i have eaten some peanut butter granola bars that i purchased before this whole scare...hopefully none of them are affected.
14I have been eating cashew butter too, it's really good. Got it for the first time last week, it's more expensive but I mean it's worth it for me..
I called the Pure Protein company since they make my favorite pb bars, and they always test their products so I'm glad they are safe to eat.
15I am still eating peanut butter and peanut butter products, such as Newman's Own peanut butter Newman-O's, that I have checked out. I have not eaten any peanut butter flavored breakfast bars or energy bars though and I do not plan to go back to them for awhile. Plenty of other flavors and food options.
16I'm still eating JIF from the jar, but nothing else besides that. And I do trust Newman's Own PB dog treats for my dog. But that's about it.
