Looks like there is a new fitness class on the scene. The focus is to get you in shape, but not in the traditional meaning. Rather than focusing on burning calories, the goal of the high-heel workout it to get you in shape to walk comfortably in heels. The first part of the class is done wearing your fave heels while performing simple dance moves and a few other exercises. After changing into sneakers, the second half of the class includes classic leg toning moves like squats and lunges along with core-strengthening moves to aid posture. Those three-inch stilettos can really throw off your balance. Here is a video snippet of the class.

I am the kind of gal that reserves high heels for special occasions, since they do funky things to my feet like create corns and cause some serious neck and back pain. I think this class is a little silly, but I fear I may be in the minority here, as many of you wear heels three times a week. What do you think about a high-heel workout? Is it silly or practical? Uh, no thanks. I already know how to walk, dance, and run in heels, so this just seems dumb to me, and if you're wearing heels on a regular-ish basis, I'm guessing you do too. And if you're changing into sneakers halfway through to do traditional moves like lunges, just do them at home! Why pay someone to show you something that's easy to do alone and free?
1I think this is actually really funny- especially because Stuart Florida is where I am from!
2Good angle for the instructor. Gotta work 'em all in this economy.
But, uh, no. Just no.
3I never really wear high heels. I'm already tall, I don't need them.
And...if these heels cause all sorts of back and leg problems [as has been indicated many times in research], why on earth would I spend more time in them than I had to?! Makes no sense.
4Actually, I could totally see myself doing something like this! haha
5Ha, neat idea but hello sprained ankle!!
6I'm with Diamond. The chances of injury here are ridiculously high, and no decent trainer would recommend working out in heels. I get the hook, but a class focusing on improving leg tone and core stability would be much more helpful and significantly less dangerous. No one will notice your perfectly toned high heeled legs when you're wearing an ankle brace and socks with sandals instead.
7When I was in HS I use to do cardio in my mom's heels lol. I always felt it helped get my calves in better shape.
8I work out in high heels at least once a week - I teach a pole dance fitness class, and having the 6" platform stilettos is half the fun!
We also make sure to start on more stable (chunky) heels before moving up towards spike heels to help the students develop their ankles and overall balance. And of course, no student is required to wear the heels - they just go barefoot!
But I can tell a big difference in my hamstrings, glutes, calves and quads from dancing in those shoes!
9I'd totally do this
10i also feel like i burn more calories wearing heels hahaa you try to keep your posture, more pressure on calves and thighs, so yeah
this exercise might be a good idea, i don't think i wanna join anyway, i'd rather do cardio with my running shoes
even tho i wear heels everytime i go out
11I wouldn't join something like this, and I think the chance for injury is really high. I do know a couple of friends who could benefit from this though!
Recently I've been wearing heels on a regular basis (4-5 times/week) because I'm learning some new dance moves that require supreme ankle strength. I figure wearing them every day will make my ankles stronger (after 3/4 weeks I have felt an improvement) so I don't injure myself during a performance. For day to day never wear higher than 3", and my dance heels are 2", so I shouldn't have too much of a problem.
Funny fact - I have a friend who cleans her house in heels. She also dresses up, but that would probably be a safer 'workout' (standing, scubbing, kneeling, walking, etc.).
12Um, no thanks. I like heels for special occasions, but I don't like wearing them for longer than say, an hour.
13I wear heels all the time, takin the bus, working, dancing, dinner anything. So I know how to walk in them.. but it would be interesting see what this is!

15I heard one of the celebrities wear high heels doing the vaccuming for a good workout. I would love to know more from anyone who believes there are benifits to your body in terms of burning calories and your muscles. Thanks!
16Coincidence that this workout came out AFTER I created the Catwalk Confidence Workout for women!! Catwalk Confidence Workout benefits women who wear high heeels with a TRUE understanding of demands placed on the body when wearing high heels. The increase in foot/ankle stability, the postural muscles needed to prevent low back pain the strong hip muscles used during gait.

I definitely would do this workout.
Being in heels causes you to "stabilize" with greater frequency and intensity than you would with traditional cross training shoes.
Should you use this to replace every day work outs? Probably not. But it would be an excellent idea to work it into your routine-- particularly if you wear high heels with regularity.
In fact, I'd argue that working out in high heels in a controlled environment like this would make you LESS LIKELY to injure yourself walking down the street after you've hard your third dirty martini.
Thumbs up.
