You just can't go wrong with foods made by Kashi. Not only does everything they make contain whole grains and real ingredients, but they're always full of flavor too. A while back, I was thrilled when they began making frozen pizzas and entrées. The ones I've tried I really liked, so when picking up a couple boxes at the store, I discovered a new dish — Mayan Harvest Bake.

Talk about a unique meal. It's made with plantains, kale, and amaranth polenta. Want to see what it really looks like? Then read more.

This has to be my favorite Kashi entrée yet. The amaranth polenta had a satisfyingly creamy texture, and the baked sweet potatoes and cooked kale made this meal seem homemade. The plantains were delicious, very sweet and soft, and they complemented the spicy ancho sauce so well. I loved the sprinkled pepitas (pumpkin seeds) on top that added a crunchy texture. This meal is warm and savory, perfect for a quick Winter meal. It's also vegan, so it contains no cholesterol and is low in saturated fat. It's pretty low in sodium too, which I was happy to see. The fiber content is not too shabby, but I would have thought it contained more protein since there were tons of black beans mixed in. Overall, I loved this Mayan Harvest Bake and would definitely recommend it to anyone who likes bean and veggie dishes. |

the picture doesn't look too appetizing, but the ingredients sound pretty good . . . maybe I'll check it out
1i agree...the photo sure doesn't look appetizing but the ingredients are fab! Oh and you got me with vegan!
2wow...this sounds like a really good comfort meal...i can't wait to try it - maybe tonight!
3how does this get 19 grams of sugar? yeesh
4Yes, there are 19g of sugar BUT there is also 8g of fiber which negates the blood sugar raising effects of the sugar. Still.. total sugar is a bit high.
Unfortunately I won't be trying this or any other Kashi product anymore since they use wheat in nearly every single product and I have come to realize that i (and my skin) don't tolerate wheat.
5On a side note I am slightly bothered that they would call this 'Mayan' since a lot of the ingredients in it have absolutely nothing to do with mayan cooking.
6I'm from Jamaica and this meal looks a lot like something I would cook up. I love polenta and plantains. MMMM. I'm going to go buy this.
7Yummy, can't wait to buy this!
Also, has anyone tried their new TLC Chewy bar, Raspberry Chocolate? It's so good!
8Eh pass...
9Last time I ate a frozen dinner from Kashi, it made me gag. It was a pesto pasta dish that tasted terrible. I love their other products though. Maybe I'll give them another try.
10SO funny, Fit--I emailed YumSugar about this meal a week or two ago and told her to review it! It's SO SO SO good. Best frozen meal I've had, hands down!
11Omg this looks fantastic! I love Kashi products, but they had one dish- the black bean mango salsa that made me gag too. However, I know a ton of people who love it, so perhaps it's just something I don't care for. I will definitely try this!
12Drool.
13so i had it for dinner last night...it was okayyy
14Kashi can do no wrong in my book. This looks so delicious.
15I just had this for lunch today for the first time and it was awesome!
16Even better than black bean mango
I just finished eating it. Very tasty. A different texture but I love it after two or three bites i was a fan. I love trying foods and trying to replicate them at home. This is my next project.
17This was an amazing frozen meal! I had it with Kashi Morrocan Grain dish which complemented perfectly.
