I don't know if you were able to catch Renée Zellweger on The Late Show last week, but Dave's first comment was about how fit she looks and his follow up question was how does she do it? The answer was running, of course!

Renee runs three miles on the treadmill almost everyday and to keep herself entertained while logging the miles she watches TV, mostly CNN. However, she does admit that she has a tendency to over do it and is running even though her physician "forbid" her to. Renée has fluid on her hip joint from inflammation, but somehow, with the help of copious amounts of Advil, she manages to walk in her beautifully high Louboutin pumps as well as run. She can't give up running, claiming it's her therapy. But she might be needing some physical therapy soon because unfortunately, Renée is no stranger to injury; she suffered from plantar fasciitis, a painful foot injury, for two years.

Renée does not like Spinning, the "woo" factor of group classes turns her off. We know that she seems a bit worried about turning 40, but FitSugar reader laellavita works out at the same gym as Renée and says that the movie star works hard and "seriously sprints on the treadmill." Along with her daily dose of cardio, she works with weights too.
While I understand needing to run, I hope she monitors her hip inflammation because over use injuries can seriously interfere with therapy running.

She looks very muscle-y. But I understand how she can't stop running. Runner's high is an addiction!
2That's exactly why I'm not keen on long distance running or any type of chronic cardio. I'd rather keep fit with moderate strength training, light cardio (walking, etc) and then high intensity intervals once or twice a week (for no longer than half an hour). To me anything more than that seems unnecessary, and the eventual cons (inflammation, injury, overtraining) far outweigh the pros.
I know a woman who is in her late fifties and her doctor has officially FORBID her to run. She used to clock at least 10kms basically everyday (6.2 miles), and over the years it has caused such stress on her body that she ended up looking like a piece of beef jerky - not to mention the permanent injuries she sustained.
I guess you can overdo anything, though.
3Go Renee! Running is amazing and addictive. I know that when I'm training a lot and I sprain something, not being able to run is so depressing.
4i think there's got to be a balance, and i think running every day is a little obsessive, especially given her Dr's request. I like running too, but i feel a lot more balanced when I mix running with cycling, elliptical, yoga, strength, etc.
don't you think she'd be better off mixing it up? i mean, if she injures herself and has to take time off, won't she be sorry she didn't mix in some more low-impact cardio?

7I think running through an injury is foolish and she seems obsessed. To me, she looks way older than she is, and she doesn't look healthy.
8I think she is much to thin. I thought she looked so much prettier when she was Bridget Jones.
But at least she admits she is not healthy with the running. I am addicted to the elliptical too, so I get what she is talking about.
9I don't know that she should be applauded for injuring her body and obsessively working out, since that's what this sounds like. I mean, wouldn't most people stop if they had a fluid build-up in their hip? I certainly would, and I love running as much as the next person.

I love Rene!! But she keeps doing these roles that require her to gain weight- and then she loses it really quickly afterward. Almost as if to say, "this is what I really look like guys.." She's lovely either way
12I love to exercise, too, and yes, I find it cathartic. However, I think Renee has taken exercise too far. She's over-exercising, and injuring her body. She seems to be ignoring that, and carrying on with being self-destructive. Oh well, it's her call.
13OMG I am really starting to love running. Every other day I try to run 1.5 miles. I love it!

yes, running is addictive, i run almost everyday too, but i won't push myself, if its painful then its painful, advil is just hiding the pain and the damage

if she wants to stay in shape, its better for her to cut her calories rather than pusing herself running and make the injuries/inflammation worse
16I think she'd look better if she gained 5 lbs. But at least she looks muscular and not bony.
17I can see how she could get addicted to running. I was running 70 miles a week at one point and it was giving me tendonitis and plantar fasciitis, among other things. Yet I couldn't stop...I was really addicted to it and yes, I got very wiry and lean. Now I use the elliptical more and I still maintain a nice lean figure without all the joint and muscle wear and tear.
18am i the only one who thinks there's more to this story? uh i run 6 miles a day and a long run of 15+ miles every wknd and i do not look like her. 3 miles a day is nothing, so she's either lying about how much she runs or she eats zero.
19I used to be a competitive distance runner, and it can be so addictive! Unfortunately, I ran with stress fractures for such a long time, that I caused permanent damage to my bones. Now I only go for an incredibly short jog if I'm on vacation and don't have access to elliptical or a treadmill (which I walk on at a full incline). If she really loves running, she should do it in moderation, or she might never be able to run again. Sad.
20I saw Renee working out at Equinox and she is really far more beautiful in person.
