Oftentimes we think of sandwich/bread shops as a healthier alternative to say, McDonald's. While this may be the case trans fat wise, that's about it. So before heading out to grab a bite at Panera Bread, you may want to check out this breakdown first.

Fit's Tip: While I would highly recommend sticking to soups and salads, you can also order most sandwiches (and salads) in half sizes to cut down on the amount of calories you are consuming.

i only eat their broth based soups. Their sandwiches are too huge anyway
1i always have the low fat soup. They are all delicious and really filling. They have the veggie for 90 cal, the chicken noodle for 100 cal, and black bean for 160 (i think). Try them out.
2It's been a long time since I've eaten there last and I usually just get the half & half and it's usually with the LF chicken noodle soup.
3I love these breakdown charts! Thanks, Fit!
There's one on the ground floor of my office. Yikes! I love the chicken tomesto sandwich. I looked at their web site and it's actually not that bad, but the salads! Terrible!
4I always try to get half-sizes of the sandwiches I'm hooked on. It's hard here where I live (ST. Louis, MO) because this is where Panera ORIGINATED- the entire city is HOOKED. We still call them "St. Louis Bread Company" here, or "Bread Co," affectionately. It's the city hang-out spot and everyone's place to be on a Saturday or Sunday morning.
5I love Panera and I don't get it very often, so I'm really glad you didn't tell me how much my Bacon Turkey Bravo (sans Bravo sauce, of course) and Baked Potato Soup have. We have a system that I just couldn't get out of! (The Man gets some of my turkey, the fatty pieces of bacon and my gouda for his roll so he can have a mini sandwhich).
6I love the Strawberry Poppyseed & Chicken Salad! It's my favorite dish there.
7mm. I hvaen't been there in a month. I usually get the half and half, with the veggie soup and smokehouse turkey panini. I looked it up one time and I think once you halved the calories in the samich it was just at 400 calories for the whole meal, but the sodium...out of this world.
8I just ate lunch there yesterday!! I had the pick two combo... Half black bean soup and half salmon salad. Soooo yummy, and healthy!
9Their Asiago Cheese Bread is soo good!
10They have the best bagels. Yum!
11i can't keep away from the cream of chicken and wild rice. it's my absolute favorite soup. i had panera two consecutive days last week, a soup and a chicken caesar salad (half, duh). break down the bagels!
and you can see all nutritionals on their website panerabread.com
12Granted I am struggling with my weight as we speak, but this is one place that says "go ahead and cheat" I love their food. I do let myself splurge once in awhile and Panera is an awesome place to do so.
13i want to know the stats on their other baked goods, i.e. the chocolate pastry. MMMMMMMMMm
14I love the Mediterranean Veggie sandwich! I get the pick two combo with that and the vegetarian black bean soup. And an apple instead of chips! Yum, Panera is awesome.
15i love the soups in panera bread and i don't care how many calories it has. i'll just burn it off.
16if you order the french onion soup without the cheese and croutons, it's only 80 calories per 8 oz, and its delicious! i get it every time
17Good idea.
18Good list.
19I had the tuna salad sandwich on multigrain yesterday... (split it with my Sweet Babboo
)
Do you have the breakdown for that?
20I usually go for the half sandwich, half soup...
21I just had the Strawberry Poopyseed Chicken Salad today. It was great and I was impressed with the large amount of fruit in it...more than just strawberries.
22I LOVE Panera!! I always get the half/half deal. The low fat chicken noodle soup is to die for!
23I only eat their soup & salads... there are an awful lot of calories in their sandwiches.
24I love their frontega chicken panini but i only eat their once in a while
25No matter how many calories they have, I will forever get their pumpkin muffins. I can't describe how amazing they are.
26if you're looking for a bit shot of protein, check out the new tomato, basil and motz. panini.... its got a bajillion grams of protein!
27I love panera bread! but seesshhh! look at the sodium for the Italian combo & frontega chicken sandwitch! WoW
I love there Strawberry Poppyseed Chicken salad tho..yummy
28I hear ya on the Chicken and Wild Rice Soup! My favorite. Imagine how I felt when I stood in line and just when I got to the front of the line they took the sign down because they were out! TWICE! I mean c'mon!! Their Spinach and Bacon Souffles are also soooo good ... sinful ... but GOOOOD!!
29Panera is SO YUMMY!
30I love Panera Bread! Great bagels, broccoli and cheese soup or black bean soup and its great to have a 'fast food' option that isnt french fries and burgers!!
31I love Panera. A great low cal. sandwich is turkey on rye with lettuce, tomatoes, and onions. Fantastic soups as well!
32tomato, basil, mozz panini is the yummiest. i came into work this morning and there was a panera bread coupon on my desk...think that was a hint that I'm going there today! =)
33I love Panera Bread!
34I love Panera Bread!
35I love Panera Bread!
36wow, sorry for the multiple posts!
37their broccoli cheese soup is so good, but i doubt it's low fat.
38panera is crackkkkkkk...i love it there. i never had that salmon salad it sounds amazing though!!! in nj they have bread, soups, salads, sandwiches and pizzas...MMMMMM. their asiago bread is amazing and so is their veggie black bean, baked potato and brocc cheddar soups. but i always heard they were very high in fat...i mean the food's too good to be true!!
but what better place to get fat than panera?
39Panera is great! I found one way to lessen the calories in there sandwiches is to just eliminate the cheese. The strawberry salad is phenom though and low cal!

42Yummmmm, I love Panera. Their "you pick 2" is good because you get a half sand which and soup or half portion salad.
43Wow..the sodium content in most of these items is insane! I still love Panera though. It's delish!
44I was just wondering where to find calories in stuff here. I love this place, I always get the half and half combo...salad and a panini but its always like a turkey thing....
45Oh no! No, no, no, don't ruin Panera for me! Nooooo! Their breakfast soufflés are the best! (I'll guess at around 500 calories? y/n?) I'm a very static sort; I find something I like and I don't tend to deviate. When I eat there, I always get the half and half deal: Half a Caesar salad and half a Frontega chicken sandwich. (Almost always pull out the onions and ask for extra field greens and basil.)
46I love Bread co., but I can't believe the sodium content of my favorite sandwich, the med. veggie!! Yikes! I always get half of that with black bean soup. Ah well, I'm just too addicted to bread co. :]
47i usually get the 1/2 and 1/2 with a low-fat soup and a salad, and i ask for no cheese on the salad. i love it though- prob my fav restaurant.
48I work at Panera.
If you ever need to know anything about the food content
(especially if you are watching your weight or have food allergies), just ask someone to bring out the nutrition guide. We have a book with everything we serve in it (it's a pretty large
book), and we're happy to show you. A lot of people see how large the book is and say "Just forget it." But for us weight/health conscious people, it's worth it. Plus, it's sectioned off by
food type so it's actually pretty easy to find anything.
49Panera still wins as the best small chain for fast food I think. they seriously need to lessen the fat however. Only two items I am able to get from there.
