There may not be a cure for the common cold, but we've learned the basic steps to overcoming a cold: Plenty of rest and fluids. There's now scientific research that says warm drinks are capable of treating cold and flu symptoms, and this beverage concoction from Slashfood seems perfect for cheering you up when you're down with a miserable cold.
The simple recipe is a fun alternative to try when you've already guzzled eight cups of tea and are craving something different. Give it a go next time you're under the weather; all you need is honey, ginger, and lemon. Follow Slashfood's instructions, and you should be on your way to taming your cold symptoms.
- Grate a half-inch chunk of ginger into a large mug.
- Squeeze the juice of half a lemon in on top (you can also add the zest if you're feeling daring).
- Add a heaping teaspoonful of honey (feel free to adjust the sweetness level to your personal taste).
- Fill the cup with boiling water and stir to combine. Drink while still warm and repeat as necessary.

I may try this once. And some simple home remedies are great for you.
1I was thrown as I saw ice in the picture but figured it was hot prior to reading the whole story. As much as I dislike ginger in most forms, I'll try it. I'd try anything if my next cold is as bad as my last one was!!
2My mom used to make honey-lemon drinks for me when I was a little kid and I got sick. Hmm, adding ginger would be a good kick!
3I'll remember this for the next time I'm sick (which is unfortunately quite often).
My mom used to make me hot lemonade and honey when I had a cold
4When you get sick, even though vitamin c is important, it shouldn't be taken in from lemons or oranges. Having acidic lemon juice during a cold changes the pH in your body as it tries to neutralize it. This creates an environment that bacteria thrive in. Maybe a supplement or some other form of vitamin c would be better.
5I bet this works well, but I HATE ginger. I do like hot tea with a little honey and lemon when I'm sick though.
6I drink a lemon-ginger herbal tea that I adore. It's great hot in the winter and iced in the summer.
7I have done this drink for years now when I have a cold. The only difference is is that I add a shot of either brandy or whiskey to it. Then go to bed and pile the covers on so you sweat it out. You will feel tons better the next day.
8I posted a similar cold remedy here: http://fitnessandfood.today.com/2009/01/08/a-cure-for-what-ails-cold-rem...
9I've actually been drinking the concoction since I was little! Maybe it's a Chinese thing
. I usually don't have fresh ginger handy and often don't have lemons so I just use the honey and hot water blend and it's just as good
