When you're preparing for a day that will bring a strenuous workout or a busy morning with no time for a mid-morning snack, it's especially important to eat a filling breakfast. Oatmeal is great for these occasions, and stirring almond butter into your bowl is a delicious way to add a lot more filling protein, fiber, and flavor.
Almond butter is a healthy and tasty alternative to the old favorite, but currently controversial, peanut butter. Both nut-based condiments are calorie-dense, and they're so yummy that it's easy to get carried away. Measure one serving (2 tablespoons) of almond butter before stirring it into your warm oatmeal, and start your day knowing that your stomach grumbles won't get in the way.

oh gosh that would be difficult. I'm just starting to use almond butter and it is so dense and the taste is so heavy that I fear it would overwhlem my oatmeal.
raw slivered almonds are cool to add but almond butter I'd had to save for when I am starving and in need of something dense tasting.
1I recently added a tiny bit of pumpkin butter (from Trader Joes) to my morning oatmeal when I was out of berries. It's my new favorite! Will have to try almond butter next. Thanks for the tip!
2MMMMM sounds yummy. But I have to have fruit in the morning (no meal without a fruit and/or veggie!) and calorie wise 2T nut butter, oatmeal and fruit is a little much. I could probably add in 1T on some days though.
3I posted about this in the PB post...I make my own almond butter and it's super easy to do. Grind up almonds in a blender or food processor until they're fine and sort of sticky, then drizzle in a bit of oil until the mixture holds together. I also use cashews or pecans, but I think almonds work the best.
4i've never tried almond butter before, it's imported, so it's a bit pricey..
5mmm i love to make my oatmeal with banana cooked into it, and then drizzle on nut butter. it will seriously keep me full for 5+ hours!
6oh, and SillyGirl, try 1/3c dry oats, half a banana, 1 T of nut butter. that's about 250 calories...
7delish! i pretty much eat this every morning with whatever nut butter i have (usually natural peanut butter). i posted something about this last week (?) on the eat breakfast posts... add some sugar free jam (or fruit) for PB&J oatmeal. very satisfying.
8Almond butter is so good on oatmeal! But I don't mix it in because then it's hard to taste! I just put a spoonful on top and let it melt everywhere. Then I can get a little bit in each bite. My FAVE oatmeal combo is 1/2 cup oats with a ripe mashed banana and lots of cinnamon mixed in, and chopped nuts and nut butter on top. MMMM.
9Hmmm not sure on this idea.
10I love almond butter but I've never put it in oatmeal. I may try it.
Thanks for the suggestion.
11i ran out of blueberries that i normally put in my oatmeal this morning, so i will try this tomorrow! it sounds soo good!
12Good idea. Never would have thought of it.
13Almond butter is yummy!!
14i always add peanut butter and either cashews or almonds to my oatmeal, and sometimes a banana. i'm actually eating high fiber cinnamon roll oatmeal now, with peanut butter!! haha =] prepping for a workout
