With colorful bottles and a variety of appealing flavors, VitaminWater products took convenience store refrigerators by storm. Water is ideal for thirst quenching, but I'm not shy to admit I've sampled a few VitaminWater flavors here and there. My gripe with the beverage is that a bottle of these beverages (equal to more than one serving) contains a ton of sugar, and The Center for Science in the Public Interest has a much bigger problem with the drink line and is taking it to court. To learn what has the advocacy group all riled up, read more.
There's now a class-action lawsuit against Coca-Cola over the company's "deceptive claims" about VitaminWater's health benefits. Stephen Gardner, director of litigation for the advocacy group commented, "It truly shocks the conscience that a company like Coke would try to keep customers by selling them a soft drink and telling them it's a vitamin."
Do you think VitaminWater pulled one over on consumers looking for a beverage that would benefit their health, or do thirsty people buy the drinks because they enjoy them, regardless of a health component?

Vitamins or not, I don't go near the stuff.. It's got a crazy high sugar content for a "water" product. It's not at that much less than regular soda. ick!
1I have had some from time to time for a treat, and while it has a high sugar content, I like it more than regular pop. I don't think it's claims are fraudulent unless it doesn't contain the vitamins the label says it does. I mean, obviously popping a multivitamin is a much cheaper and healthier way of getting vitamins, and nothing replaces healthy eating, but isn't that kind of for people to figure out themselves?
2I've had Vitamin Water from time to time. I was just curious if it was any good. Yeah, it's not bad, but the sugar content is just a bit much for me.
3I really like the XXX flavor, but the sugar content is insane. Still, I'll choose Vitamin Water over soda any day if I'm craving a sweet beverage. But more often than not, I just drink plain water--it's my favorite!
4I mean, they're not really being deceptive. But a lot of people don't read nutrition labels or ingredients, and they wouldn't know what to look for if they did. It's the same thing as people eating "wheat" bread and thinking it's healthy when it's really mostly white four.
5i don't know anyone who drinks vitamin water for the water...i feel like most people know it's pretty much a soft drink. i do drink smartwater though and love it!
6I stopped drinking Vitamin Water like 2 yrs ago. It was too sweet. Occasionally I still get a craving but I reach for sparkling water instead.
7I can get all the vitamins in Vitamin Water by drinking a glass of water and taking a multivitamin. And bonus: there's not a ton of extra sugar in it.
8I lIke it. I sometimes cut it with water and put it in a sports bottle when I run.
9It is so high in sugar that I have to mix it with water. But I used to believe that it was good for you.
10I like the energy one, but no it's not for vitamins. Also anyone complaining about how sugary these drinks are, Duh It's a Softdrink!
11Before I tried it, I thought it was supposed to be good for you but after reading the label, I knew it wasn't. I still drink a Formula 50 or XXX from time to time but I go for water most of the time.
12I'm not big on soda and I like them for the "not too sweet" taste.
13i dont think it has that many vitamins. its better to just take vitamin pills
