While Gwyneth Paltrow and I tend to be on different pages regarding detox diets, her dedication to fitness is something I fully support. She has been keeping the world posted with her newsletter, and in her latest one Gwyneth shares the "New Year's butt" workout recommended by her trainer, Tracy Anderson. Gwyneth says, "It’s really hard. But do it like she says to do it and I swear that in 10 days you will see your butt change shape."

Tracy sent a video of the workout that she filmed from her hotel room, and a chair is the only equipment needed. There are several variations in the sequence and Tracy instructs her client to begin with 20 or 30 repetitions of each exercise per leg, which seems like a well-rounded (though slightly time-consuming) booty workout. She recommends working up to 50 reps and adding one-pound ankle weights for more challenge. View Gwyneth's newsletter to see the video and follow the link she provides if you want to download the workout onto your iPod.

UGH hate her and her stupid trainer.
1and boy does tracy have her tongue all up in gwyneth's a** the first minute of that video.
2I have Tracy Anderson's Mat workout DVD and love it. I've been doing the workout less than a week and I already feel stronger. I'll be tacking this leg series onto the end very soon.
3I'm in no rush to try Tracy's videos, but looking at the booty video it looks tough and effective. Maybe I missed it the first time around, but did she say 50 reps for each leg on all the moves? If yes, holy cannolli!
4Looks like a great workout for butt and lefs, I think i'll be trying it tonight!
5I love that it involves some ballet movements - one of the best ways to build up your lower body!
6I agree with Sundaygreen in her dislike for both Gwyneth and her trainer.50 reps really isn't incredibly strenous (just time consuming), especially when you use your own body weight or if you add 1 pound ankle weights which is pretty much useless to add. Why not do 10 reps to failure with a lot more weight to save time and get a better workout. That is how you really see a difference in your booty!
7Tracy knows what she's talking about with the 1 lb weight and the 20-30 reps (she said to work up to 50). You're going for leanness and strength, not bulk. And, I appreciate Gwyneth sharing this video...they could've charged for it, but it's free. Pretty nice. I'm sure it'll help sell some videos for Tracy, but I'm happy for the great workout routine.
8jagibby- you won't bulk up from lifting weights (the "normal" way) a few times a week, it's a total, complete myth. I'm sure fit has addressed this somewhere on this site.
9I've been using this sequence for the last five or six days, and I totally love it. I'm not a huge Gwynneth fan, and her last newsletter with that cleanse really ticked me off. But these sequences are actually really good at working all sorts of areas in your butt, back, thighs, and core. I definitely recommend it. And like jagibby said - it's nice of them to share it. Hmmm...maybe Gwynnie's starting to get on my good side...
10I too have been doing this video since it came in my GOOP email newsletter. I love it so much I called my mom to have her do this video of few times, paired with yoga.
*Amazing. My legs look pretty dang good. It strengthens your core, back, thighs, and gives you 'ballerina posture'.Its better to do it slowly and efficiently than getting more reps in.Highly recommended.
11Oh!
For anyone who is just plain ole' lazy or is short on time. It takes about 8 min. per side.I don't think I can say enough how much this has changed my legs and butt. In only a few days!!!Serisouly. I am in love. I am going to get her dvd. She rocks.
12Doing a ridiculous amount of reps with a too light weight will NOT make you "more toned" (which is a ridiculous statement unto itself -- you can't 'tone' a muscle)... and doing 10-15 reps with a weight that will fatigue you at the end of each set will NOT make you bulky.
For a woman to bulk up she needs a serious amount of protein, a hardcore weight routine, and, likely, some sort of supplements.
13ugly quicktime, can't watch it using linux
14I have to disagree with the statements about women not bulking up. If I lift 10lbs weights 4 times a week at 10-15 reps my biceps start to bulk up in just 1 week. I do not consume tons of protein and the only suppliment I take is my multivitamin. I have the same problem with my leg muscles bulking
This is why I bought the TA Mat DVD. It's a great workout and I'm feeling stronger without my muscles getting bigger.
15I don't know if it is just my body type, but I fully bulk up from doing regular weights the right way. I even bulked up when I switched to 12-15 reps with a few pounds less. Maybe it is because I did ballet for so long as a teen. The times I have not been bulky have been when I have been going to a dance or a pilates class regularly. I am not a big fan, but maybe the Tracy Anderson stuff will work for me.
16I'm also not a fan of Tracy Anderson or Gwyneth. Like some others have said, Tracy seems to believe that if you lift any weights over 3 lbs, you'll blow up like a balloon. I guess I don't really get it...I lift heavy weights and do fewer reps and I wouldn't consider my muscles "bulky". They have a lot of definition and strength (lol, I guess they'd be called "toned" in women's-magazine speak), but they're also functional. Sorry, but I want my muscles to be able to lift heavy objects as well as look good in a tank top.
17I agree with the 1lb. Even though not everyone "bulks up" with heavier weights, I do. I'm a petite girl who was a dancer. If I workout with anything over 3lbs I get bulky man arms and legs. I know from experience. Heavy weights aren't for everyone either are small weights. Don't refuse to do a workout just because you don't agree with the weight she recommends. Adjust it to your body. Otherwise you just sound like you're making excuses. =)
18I just tried this and really liked it. (And I am not a huge fan of Gwennie either) Although I wish I had leg weights and my chair was a little wobbly. I work out with hand weights 25 lbs and higher frequently and I don't bulk up as much as I think my biceps just look bigger because I have lost some fat on them and the muscle is more defined. I like how it looks and my husband thinks it is sexy. Some people are naturally skinny or curvier, but I think no muscle definition makes you look a little sick.
19I'd hate to see what you all consider "bulky" if you think lifting a weight heavier than 3lbs make you bulky. Every scientific study on the topic shows that a 10-15 rep range causes hypertrophy (i.e. increase in muscle size); whereas, a 4-6 rep range with heavier weight causes strength increase, but little increase in size.
If you are "bulking" from lifting such low weights, you are merely getting fat.
20I feel like some of these moves are like those of Yoga. The Last sequence we do a similar move in Yoga but we do a Push Up and then lift the leg about 10 on each side. Not 100. I will try this. I can't wait.
21No, thanks.
22Photoshop and body doubles aside, Fishstick has one of the least attractive bodies I've ever seen. Taking "booty" advice from her is like taking advice on pushups from somebody with bingo wing.
23I agree with you, Spectra! You too, GlowingMoon. And, esoterica..lol
24worth a shot right? Even though tracy has a ridic ripped body, i wouldnt want that personally, she is in shape and using her workouts with other exercise could be good!
