Green tea must currently be the most studied beverage on the planet. Another group of studies just came out showing that the brew reduces the brain plaque buildup that can lead to Alzheimer's. Green tea, with its high antioxidant count, also helps ward off certain cancers, helps fight HIV, protects the skin against UV damage, and boosts your metabolism. There are just so many reason to drink green tea, but for me taste would not be among them. I need to cut the grassy taste with jasmine petals or toasted rice, like genmai cha.
With all its wonderful side effects, I am wondering . . .

As I read this post I am blowing on a fresh hot cup of green tea. i picked all of the above. But I love tea in general.
1In that picture it shows tisane, which is herbal tea.
But I drink green tea for all
of those reasons.
2All the above, but the taste...
3I love green tea for all the reasons, including the taste. I usually drink at least 10 cups a day.
4All of the above. Mostly I like the fact that I can drink it without milk (I can't, for instance, drink ceylon / earl grey without a spot of milk). I like drinking it instead of coffee, too (I'm trying to drink only a cup of coffee a day).
Other than that, I've really only read good things about green tea, and I've grown to like the taste (with a bit of mint) - good times all round.
5I hate the taste but I drink it for the health reasons. I also take green tea extract when I'm too lazy.
6I prefer it iced with a little sweetener like agave and if I don't have that I will put half a packet of sweet n low. It's really good with lots of lemon, if I have lemon I won't add sweetner.
7Go green tea!
My problem with green tea is not that it tastes like grass. My problem is I do not "do" caffeine under any circumstances, and green teas have a LOT of it. I can get my anitoxidants and health-improving nutrients other ways that don't mess with my body's chemisty so much. *Shrug.*
8I just like it.
Just like most beverages, it has it's time and place. Usually
afternoons after my morning coffee...
9Actually, misskacie, green teas have some of the lowest amounts of caffeine out of all the teas. Only white tea is lower than it, and black teas have the highest amount. All tea has much lower caffeine amounts than coffee. And the way the caffeine in tea is released in your body is much different than in coffee as well. It's gradual, sort of like a time release capsule. And the fact of the matter is, it takes much less tea leaves to make the drink compared to more coffee beans and less actual coffee... so keep that in mind.
Anyway, here's a pretty good table comparing the levels of caffeine in various things: http://coffeetea.about.com/library/blcaffeine.htm
10i love green tea. I got this awesome mint green tea from lupicia and I'm obsessed with it. Actually I need to see about getting some more!! almost out!
11I drink green tea because It has enough caffeine with out making me jittery like coffee.
12Thanks for mentioning the brain reason. Now I have another reason to remember to drink it more often. I don't actually mind the taste but normally I have a tea bag of another type of tea and some of the green teas I buy are ones like pomengranate flavored or jasmine green tea and I've gotten genmai cha green tea which I like a lot.
13I prefer slightly "altered" green tea--roasted leaves, green chai, or (my current favorite) green tea infused with orange oil and blended with marigold leaves. I drink about 4 to 5 cups a day.
14I was brought up on your standard Chinese tea. While other kids ordered coke with their meals in Chinese restaurants, our parents (big foodies) noted that fizzy drinks would only spoil the taste of the food. Which is why, to this day, I only drink water/fizzy water at restaurants (unless I'm lashing out in Pizza Hut or McD, or something).
But when I was 11, I visited a sushi chain in Hong Kong with this unlimited, self-serve powdered green tea. I thought the taste was AMAZING - I was hooked! But when I came back to the UK, I couldn't find it anywhere... it was all in bags, and the taste was never the same. It wasn't until 3 years ago, when my sis went back, that she bought me a packet, which I've lovingly kept for 'treats'... the pack's still half-full as you only need tiny bits each time!
And now, of course, it's publicised all over the place as Matcha, the 'new health fad', and being sold for ridiculous prices (30 servings for £25?!) It's like goji berries all over again...
15I'm not overly fond of tea in general, but I do like the Diet Lipton Citrus Green Tea. Maybe I'll start drinking it more often.
16I just drink green tea, there is no reason(s) I do, just do. I tend to combine it with 'regular' tea and make ice tea out of it.
I also mix white tea (which is better than green tea) with 'regular' tea.
I have heard a lot of people say they do not like green tea and I suggest to them to try it mix with another tea.
17I don't drink green tea specifically for its health benefits, nor do I like the taste. I just like drinking hot tea. I have multiple cups per day, and I like to have a different varieties throughout the day. I usually add some lemon or mint to green tea because it does mask the flavor of the green tea a bit.
18I drink green tea daily for the general health benefits and the taste. I started out with one of Yogi Teas green tea blends and have been in love with it ever since.
Unfortunately, I have to stop now that I'm pregnant since it inhibits the absorption of folic acid which suuuuucks!
19the taste greatly varies from kind to kind. japanese tea is in general more "grassy" then chinese ones. some days ago for example i drank two totally different kinds: pi lo chun was really delicious and it was pretty to look at, but the bancha tea was not "my cup of tea"...
20however i appreciate those beneficial effects a lot, although one should keep in mind that most of these effects have been found in vitro or only in mice.
i loooove green tea, especially this mint green tea I got at lupicia. That store is the BEST tea store. it was HEAVEN!
21I drink it twice a day just because I've gotten into the habit. But, I do think it makes my skin and nails better. Could be all in my head though.
22I was so glad to see that "because it tastes like grass" was one of the options! When I first started drinking it I just couldn't understand why anyone would want to. Then I discovered Jasmine green tea, which eliminates the grassiness
23i started to drink it all that time ago because of the metabolism stuff but i've found that there are so many other benefits, including what's listed above that i have to have a cup of green tea every day!
24I really love Tazo brand green tea..especially the 'zen' variety.
25Oh and for you who don't like the flavor of green tea. Try Arizona's new bagged green teas, with flavors like mandarin and pomegranate. Delicious.
http://www.drinkarizona.com/ under products and the 'tea bags' area.
26I'm obsessed with the health benefits
27i tried green tea for the antioxidant benefits, but actually fell in love with the taste. i rarely add any sweeteners or anything to it, and i prefer it unaltered, though i must say that the two best modified green teas i have ever had are Stash's Green & White tea (http://www.stashtea.com/w-111668.htm) and Numi's Toasted Rice Green Tea http://www.worldpantry.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ProductDisplay?prmenbr=175...
28Just had a big cup 15min ago
29I abhor the taste, but I gulp it down reluctantly to keep my skin healthy.
30Oooh, superfox, I LOVE Tazo "Zen" tea! I drink a cup of it every day at work during my morning coffee break. It wakes me up without giving me the jitters. I've always loved tea, so when I learned about how good for you green tea is, I just swapped it in for my normal black tea.
31I found this green tea that has a citrus taste to it... just a hint. But I love it!
32i love tazo's zen tea. its a mix of green tea, lemon grass and spearmint so it isn't to green tea-ish tasting. i add a packet of splenda and true lemon. mmm favorite beverage in the morning other than Starbucks espresso truffle...
33Tea and coffee make me hyper, green tea is the only one I can drink because I only put a few loose leaves in my mug and keep pouring water on it for the whole day. I don't like drinking cold water at work as tap water is gross, and tea distracts me.
34For the taste and for the comfort from the warmth.
35for all the good reasons
i prefer japanese green tea though, the plain green tea
(not with roasted brown rice or anything) it tastes so much better (for me)
36I work at a coffee and chocolate shop, so our selection of teas is the only thing keeping me healthy. If you don't like the taste of green tea, I suggest trying Dragon Pearl. Its a variation on green tea that involves green tea leaves being rolled into a ball with jasmine, which unfurls when hot water is added.
37i love the taste of green tea, i didnt know it was that good for me =
38I get green tea decaf with peppermint or lemon. it taste damn good. i would suggest to many.
39I developed a taste for it when I realised how much sugar my black tea habit was adding to my diet. I probably drink 3-4 mugs a day since my lab is cold so I like to have a hot beverage handy.
40I think I was born to drink green tea. I try other teas, but I always come back to green tea.
41i actually absolutely despise the taste of green tea... but as long as it has mint i absolutely love it.. i think i drink 4 cups a day or so.. i'm addicted... fresh mint is the best in it, unfortunately i havent been able to grow any... o well.
42I'm a huge tea drinker. I have been drinking tea since I was 4 years old. I am now 43. I do not have any cavities and I look like I am in my thirties. I credit the tea to keeping me younger looking. It must be from the antioxidants. I like all kinds, black, red, white and green. I agree that the green tea does have a grassy flavor to it, but nowadays there are sooooo many different flavored ones out there that you don't have to get that grassy taste. My favorite green teas are orange/jasmin and lemon ginseng.
43me and my husband started drinking green tea about 2 years ago we heard that it helps boost your energy level and cleanses your body of bad toxins,I recently found a great green tea in my local supermarket the name is World Classics Trading company Green Tea with Ginseng
44For the taste and health benefits. BUt mostly for the taste.
45Yuck.
46I don't drink it. I absolutely hate the taste. But I love White Tea and it's just as good for you if not more.
47i love the taste of green tea. it's very soothing.
48I was born in asia, so I grew up on green tea. And please, no milk or sugar! I think it's so odd to add anything to tea.
49i think drinking any kind of tea is an acquired taste. I do love the taste of matcha
