I've heard of first-hand smoke, the smoke you inhale directly from a tobacco product, and there's also second-hand smoke, the smoke that is given off by the burning end of a cigarette, pipe, or cigar. Now research shows there's another type of smoke that can cause harm — third-hand smoke. It's the invisible toxic gasses and particles that linger in the air, carpet, curtains, clothes, and hair long after a cigarette stops burning. Running a fan or opening a window don't get rid of third-hand smoke, and studies show that it poses the same cancer dangers and other health risks as first- and second-hand smoke. I believe it! It's poisonous in any form!
1Ugh, that's exactly why I refused to buy a house that had belonged to a smoker/smoking family. You can instantly tell and there's no way you can get that nasty reek out of the carpet, curtains, paint, etc. without totally replacing all of it.
2My mother in law used to hold my nieces in one hand and a cigarette in the other. I swore she wouldn't do that to my kids! She would hold my kids after she had smoked and I knew it was bad, it had to be! Cigarettes are poison! Thankfully she stopped smoking when my three year old was born, and I kept her away from my older daughter a lot, because of the smoking. It's just bad, all of it.
3That what's in my freakin' hallway. My neighbors all chain smoke and the smoke fills their apartments then pours into the hallway.
I've complained and called the city about the smoke and the health hazard.
The city told the property managements to ban smoking in apartments unless the residents can keep their fumes to themselves. Property managements response - meh.
Nothing has been done so I wedged the hallway windows open so that air constantly flows- no matter how cold or how wet those windows cannot be shut until the smoker's stop polluting the common areas with their dirty habit.
You know it's bad when my cats walk out into the hallway and start coughing like seasoned smokers morning cough.
4i can't judge that smokers are selfish beings.. but.. if only people can just stop smoking.. its for their own good too..
5Oh please. Go look at the labels of all those wonderful cleaning products you use in your home. Talk about toxic chemicals and poisons. There are more of these dangerous chemicals in the processed foods we eat. Why don't you just say you don't like stale smoke. That would be honest. In spite of what people have been led to believe, the effects of second hand smoke have never been proven scientifically to be anymore than annoying. Personally I think one of the most delightful sensations, is the aroma that permeates a tobacco shop.
Lets not confuse the issue. Chemicals are dangerous!
6Scary!!
