Going to the grocery store when you're hungry is the ultimate test in temptation and it's a given that you shouldn't run this errand on an empty stomach. It's good to go when when you've had some food, but an even better time to go is right after you've exercised. Working out can actually decrease your appetite.
Next time you're in need of a grocery-store run, try and go after you've pushed yourself at the gym or taken a challenging bike ride. Just slip your grocery list into your wallet and go directly to the store after your workout (well, maybe after taking a quick rinse to keep the sweat from clogging up your pores). Remember to pack a small snack for after your workout so that your hunger pangs don't distract you from what's on the list.
The dark chocolate-covered cookies will still make your mouth water, but your mind will remember how hard you just worked and it won't take long to walk away from the junk food empty-handed.

a good idea
sometimes I go after I swim, but I'm always ravenous so I have to buy a
snack first, THEN shop!
1I do this. I go to the store after working out (well, I shower first!) and I tend to focus more on getting what's on my list instead of drooling over junk I don't really need.
2I'm really bad about shopping when I get off work. I'm tired and hungry... and then I end up buying more than I need or things I don't need.
I need to quit doing that.
3I do this too, mostly because the store is right on my way home from my gym. Now that I think about it, it does make me want to load up on more fresh produce and less junk!
4I do this bc the gym is just past the store... so its a win win situation
(sometimes
I snack on the grapes or fruit samples) shhhhhhh....
5I go after school, with a list and I stick to it because I really want to get home!
6I stick to my list no matter what because I know I don't want junk, plus I'm not a huge fan of grocery shopping anyway. I go when there's time, and thats typically not after working out since I work out mostly in the morning (sometimes in the afternoon...depends).
7I'd like to think I'm a good shopper. I never come home with junk food.
8Even hungry I never find grocery shopping to be a challenge, I think I've trained myself very well to say no...
9i always do the wrong thing and go shopping when i'm hungry and then of course everything sounds good. i like the idea of going right after a work out though - since i really do feel less hungry.
10Here's an additional hint (that happens to be my favorite): aside from going after a workout and a quick snack, stick to shopping at the perimeters of the supermarket as much as possible. The walls are almost always where the good food (produce, meat, dairy, grains) is kept, and most of the processed/snacky/empty stuff is in the aisles. Especially after a workout, it feels good to put real nutrients into your cart instead of chips and Hamburger Helper!
