At a time when many people are resolving to eat less ice cream, Baskin-Robbins has introduced its new line of more diet-friendly treats under the umbrella name BRight Choices. The new selection includes a variety of flavors of light, fat-free, dairy-free, and no-sugar-added ice cream, frozen yogurt, and sorbet.
The company's website lists nutritional information for the different types of treats and flavors — for example, the Premium Churned Light Ice Cream has 50 percent less fat and 20 percent fewer calories than Baskin-Robbins' regular ice cream. Keep in mind the serving size for the nutritional info is for a 2.5-oz. scoop.

Bring your gym membership card to your local Baskin-Robbins on Jan. 15 for a free scoop of any BRight Choices flavor. You're not exactly walking into the produce section when choosing a frozen treat for a snack, but it's always nice to have a lighter option when you have a hankering.

2.5 oz. is not even half a cup. 1/2 cup would be over 200 calories, and i bet it tastes sub-par. meh.
1I'm excited for this as a diabetic - it will be nice to have a sugar free option!
2I agree with Jweave a Sugar free option would be great. Geez, you can rarely find Ice milk out in stores now a days.
And 2.5 oz of good ice cream is more than enough is actually the correct serving size for ice cream. A few spoonfuls, savored on my tongue is all I ever want - I'm not trying to make a meal out of the ice cream.
I hate when I go to Coldstone and tell the servers that I only want a small serving of SF ice cream and they start giving me a freaking softball size scoop of ice cream. I usually have to yell over the loud music and chanting and say "cut that in half, then cut it in half again - that's all I want. That's way too much. And no I don't want anything mixed in." They stare at me like I fell from outer space. But then you tip them more than the ice cream costs and suddenly they remember you when they see you and they start giving you human sized portions of ice cream at a discount.
3Raspberry chip ice cream Ingredients: nonfat milk, raspberry ribbon (sugar, seedless raspberry puree, water, pectin, citric acid, red berry color (derived from any combination of the following fruits: blueberry, black currant, aronia, blackberry, black cherry, elderberry) natural flavor and sodium benzoate), cream, raspberry puree (red raspberry puree concentrate, sugar), sugar, corn syrup, chocolate flakes (sugar, partially hydrogenated coconut oil, cocoa (processed with alkali), cocoa, vanilla extract, soy lecithin and salt), whey, stabilizer (modified whey, maltodextrin, microcrystalline cellulose, mono and diglycerides, cellulose gum, locust bean gum, carrageenan), natural & artificial raspberry flavor, citric acid, red 40, red 3, blue 1, vitamin a palmitate.
Yuck. I'll stick to homemade (to be fair, the vanilla and chocolate ones aren't as bad but still full of stabilizers.)
4i think that it's a sign of the times that BR is doing this and it's a step in the right direction since we all know that in the summer ice cream is a staple, and it's one of those foods that kids really won't ever take out of their diet.
5Wackdoodle, I know how you feel about Cold Stone. I only order the smallest serving possible and the people behind the counter would always try to get me to order the bigger size. One day I finally told the girl, "Look, I'm diabetic and if I eat any more ice cream than what I just ordered I'm going to become very sick and I'm sure you don't want that to happen." They never pressured me again after that!
