Resolutions aren't for everyone, but they've obviously caught on with many of us who consider the new year a perfect time to set goals. If you're someone who does ride the resolution train, the best way to ensure your goals will stick is to make them realistic and specific.
While you're deciding what to declare at midnight tonight, consider whether or not you were successful in following through with your 2008 resolutions. If you find yourself tempted to make the same resolution as one year ago, think about tweaking your goal to make it a little more attainable. So tell me, did you make good progress with your 2008 resolutions?

It wasn't a specific resolution, but I finally kicked the smoking habit. I started a master cleanse (which I know some people frown upon) on Jan. 1 and decided that cigarettes and fasting wouldn't mix, so I initially intended to stop smoking just for the 10 days of my cleanse. But when I finished I found that all nicotine cravings had disappeared, and I haven't had a cig since. Say what you will about fasting, it flushed the addiction right out of my system.
1My goal had been to run 1,000 miles, but it became clear in August/September that I wouldn't make it. I gave up for a bit, but then in October, I revised the goal down to 900 miles and went after it hardcore. I just finished my 900th mile about an hour ago. I learned a lot about running this year, and I'm confident that I'll be able to hit 1,000 in 2009.
2I do themes instead of specific resolutions and my 2008 theme was "Be Uplifting." I believe I indeed achieved that
Happy New Year Fit Sugar!!!!
3I did and I'm so excited! I Ran a 5K, lost some weight, managed my money better and bought a house (which was not a resolution but sure did help me manage my money) This year my goal is to be more adventurous and try new things towards my goal of being healthier. That and save money! Always haha
4Some goals I followed through on...like buying some art and doing some renovations. I did have the goal of learning to juggle too, but didn't end up practicing enough. (I also broke my wrist in '08, which didn't help much.) I'm going to let it go though. I must not have wanted to learn that as much as I thought I did!
5Well, I kept some and I didn't keep some. I got a job (which was my #1 resolution), kept up with my workout routine and my healthy eating habits, but I didn't manage to kick the Diet Coke habit. This year I want to cut down on it quite a bit.
6I cant even remember the specifics of my new years resolutions (there were quite a few!) but i know for sure that i am really proud of all the achievements i have made this year. i have really 'grown up' alot!
7its really nice to read how well everyone else has done as well!!
jedeprima ~ I was on the Master Cleanse for 21 days this past year and it made me stop smoking too! I am going on MC again for the new year.
Unfortunately I didn't keep any of my resolutions! I had a pretty hard year and am hoping that 2009 is better for me. I am going to make new resolutions and keep at 'em!
8I followed through with one of my main ones. I wanted to work on a writing project of mine a lot more because I was slacking behind on part two of it, which would have completed it. Now even though I predict it will be done by the end of this month (January) and more than my boss will be happy because we have a contract on it, I still consider myself as keeping that 2008 resolution....completing my 2nd main writing project.
As for my 2009 resolution, I’m taking a serious vacation as soon as all 4 of my contracted projects are completed, writing wise anyway. My fingers and mind need a vacation. And I’m taking them straight out of the country.
9I surely did! I resolved to pick up one new physical activity (bikram yoga) and run 1000 miles during the course of the year. An early December foot injury, though, meant I had to walk the last 40. Now, I figure I can take a few weeks off to fully heal up the foot before gearing up for the same resolutions in '09. I'm still trying to decide what new physical activity I'll pick up - maybe cycling, rowing, swimming, boot camp or golf?
10Is it bad that I don't even remember my resolution? Maybe it had something to do with staying fit? If so, then I kept it.
11I can't even remember my resolution...
