President-elect Barack Obama knows that nothing beats stress like a rigorous workout, and between selecting his cabinet members, getting a head start on his plans for the economy, and traveling to Hawaii for his late grandmother's memorial service, Obama has continued to make time for exercise. In fact, it seems his commitment to fitness has only intensified as inauguration day draws nearer.
Obama's workout streak has lasted for several weeks, and it's reported that he's been exercising 90 minutes a day for at least 48 days in a row. Marty Nesbitt, one of Obama's closest friends from Chicago, said, "He does it every day like clockwork. He doesn't think of it as something he has to do — it's his time for himself, a chance for him to reflect. It's his break. He feels better and more revved up after he gets in his workout."

Obama covers his bases in the gym, dividing his time between weight-lifting and a cardio rotation including a stationary bike, elliptical, and treadmill. A protein bar and organic iced tea are a typical post-workout snack for this fitness fiend. We can expect to see our next president exercising throughout his term — exercise is no fad for Obama, who has been working out at least six days a week since he was 22 years old. Let's just hope he can find a way to lay off those unhealthy cigarettes, once and for all.

That's cool. Here I am, worrying that going to the gym 3 times a week would take too much time, and the president-elect manages to do it for an hour and a half every day. Hat's off.
1Wow, this has inspired me to get my lazy butt up and start working out every day. If somebody as busy as the president elect can find time, then I definitely can.
2How do we know he's actually working out, and not chainsmoking?
3everyone's been talking about this so much - i wonder how that's going to change once he's in office since you know that it's going to be hard for him to keep it up. i think that it does set a good example
4I worry that he'll start taking criticism for this once he takes office -- you know, "Barack spends valuable time exercising when he could be saving the economy" sort of junk.
I think it's great - we need a president who takes care of himself this well!
5One of the only things I like about Obama is his commitment to exercise, but I read it was more like 45 minutes every day - at least that's what I think Men's Health had said.
President Bush is an avid runner but that doesn't seem to get all this attention.
6That's crazy, but awesome! Definitely a good lead by example type of thing.
I know Bush used to run, but I think he cut back or gave it up because I read something about him saying how hard it was on your body and his knees were paying for it.
7Good to workout
8Not good to overtrain
Everyone needs a rest day.
I feel so lazy right now.
9I'm glad that Obama is so committed to being fit, but I really do hope that he's just as committed to quitting smoking soon. Maybe he's using exercise as a replacement for cigarettes. Because if he keeps it up, it's going to be really tough for him to be keeping up with his workouts.
10man. im jelaous
11awe, good for him :]
12He works out (worked out? I guess he moved now) at the gym in my boyfriend's apartment building. Almost every time I visited my boyfriend there were swarms of secret service in the hallways. He's very consistent. Exercise is a great way to reduce stress (something he should know a thing or 2 about), but it's good to take a rest day every now & then.
13I only came on here to say...who gives a rat's ass how many times a week Obama works out??
14Hopefully it gets American's out there working out this year. Most of us can use it (me included)
15I only came on here to say... who gives a rat's ass that other people give a rat's ass about how many times Obama works out? Or something like that.
16Goodness what's my excuse?
17I remember shortly after the election he was asked what church he attended and he said he was rarely able to make it to church as Sunday was his day for the gym - I guess he has increased his days!!
18Most of our previous presidents - including the last - worked out daily and our new President is a lot younger - so it would seem he would work out everyday. I'm glad he does but I don't think it is unusual.
