Olympic swimmer, Michael Phelps, has won 14 gold medals in his swimming career, and now he's taking a little break from his rigorous training. Before the Olympics, this athlete could easily suck down 8,000 to 10,000 calories a day and burn it all off because he was exercising so much, but now, he admits he's let himself go. Apparently he's big into junk food like chips, Rice Krispie Treats, and Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, and he's only been in the pool a few times since wowing us in Beijing. He said, "I'm out of shape right now." Currently he weighs 205 pounds, and he said he's never gone past 200 before.
Is he worried? No way. He's enjoying the well-deserved time off, and has also been promoting his new book No Limits: The Will to Succeed ($20). In January, Michael plans on beginning his training for the 2012 Olympics in London.

God... you can't even tell
1buttaface
2He deserves to take a break. He might not be in Olympic shape, but 205 isn't unhealthy for him in my opinion.
3He works hard enough, he can still eat those foods I think. I don't know how tall he is, but you can't even tell. Unfortunately, he's still a butterface lol.
4yeah, this sounds healthy, yikes.
5What a fatty.
Haha. Yeah, right. I doubt there is much difference. Once he's back
training again, the extra weight will just fall off. He looks like one of those guys that's never had to worry about what he eats.
6Well, you can tell he's an athlete and not a nutritionist. He eats like a frat boy, lol. I know the feeling of gaining a bit of weight when you cut back on training without cutting back on the food though...I gained about 5 lbs since I've cut way back on my running and I actually think I look better with the 5 lbs on. I'm pretty sure Michael will start training a little harder if he gets up to a weight that's too high for him.
7I think his face looks better when his hair is super short, anyone else?
8that's funny that he's let himself go. chances are he's going to lose it all pretty quickly once he gets back into training, but it's a shame since we all know that so many women were gaga about how he looked - and now he won't take his shirt off.
9He is definitely a buttaface! If this picture is any indication, his cheeks look a bit fuller than usual (chimpunkish). That's one thing that professional athletes have to guard against, if their training dips, they need to countervail that with a reduction in their caloric intake. Many athletes will consume thousands of calories a day (often in junkfood). They are able to get away with this as long as they train regularly. When they get injured, retire or are unable to train for any length of time, then the surplus calories are stored as fat. That's why many athletes gain so much weight when their careers draw to a close. They continue to eat as if they were training and competing on a regular basis, hence the fat gain LOL.
10:rofl ilanac. I know someone who watched the olympics on mute and only the 'interesting' moments.
As long as Phelps picks up his work out regimen, things will be like gravy. He doesn't really look like he gained that much in the first place.
11michael, i am sure your body will burn off any excess calories the second you get into the pool. i think he needed to gain a little bit more weight..
