Although Winter is almost here, I can easily recall the excitement of the Summer Olympic Games and athletes that competed in Beijing.

Although it might prove difficult to pick your favorite Olympian from the 2008 games, I am sure you are up to the task. All these athletes deserve our respect and admiration, but only one can be your favorite. Do your loyalties lie in the pool or the track? Is your favorite the US beach volleyball team or the winner of the all-around gymnastic title? I want to know . . .

Dune
HTC
Charles Tyrwhitt
Justin Spring (gymnastics). Hot, hot, hot.
1I'd pick Phelps but he just seems to me selling out and losing his respect. So I went with the volleyball girls.
2seems to be selling out oops!
3Actually I really liked Shawn Johnson--she always had this huge contagious smile on her face! Nastia just looked nasty and upset all the time, like winning was the only thing that mattered
4Phelps, I admire him for this spirit.
5I would vote for Dara out of those above but I would say my favorite Olympian is Beezie Madden!
6I went for Phelps & his butterface.
7Can I also mention Cullen Jones? I wish we saw more of him.
8I voted for Usain Bolt! He shattered two huge sprinting records and having the title of "world's fastest man" is an incredible achievement. But all the people up there to choose from are incredibly gifted athletes who deserve a lot of respect and admiration! I simply chose Bolt because I am a sprinter too!
9i just hope that everyone doesn't vote for michael phels - yes he's amazing we can all say that - but i think that it's time that someone else gets a chance to shine. i said dara torres cause not only is she amazing, she has a great sportsmanship that others should want to mirror. i just remember back to the race when one of her competitors had an issue with her swimsuit and dara asked them to pause for a minute while she went to change.
10Usain Bolt, he was amazing. Plus he's from my home country, which makes him even more awesome.
11I love Shawn Johnson, even though I'm a former track and field runner. She really embodies the olympic spirit of fair play and a positive attitude, even when she was disappointed. I am rooting for her in 2012!
12Shawn Johnson is just so cute and smiled the whole time, even when they weren't doing so well.
13Once again I'm missing the "other/none of the above" button... I would pick Andreas Thorkildsen (javelin, Norway).
14Usain Bolt
15like some of the others, I'm starting to lose a lot of respect for Michael Phelps.
Nastia for sure
16Why not have an 'Other' category? There were so many great performances from other competitors (Usain Bolt, Constantina Diṭă-Tomescu, Valentina Vezzali). C'mon fit. So many of your readers aren't American.
17Phelps - What he did was amazing.
18shawn johnson and nastia luikin were my favs i looooved watching them! so talented... and of course michael phelps was amazing to watch
19Usain bolt! he was AMAZING
20I love Walsh & May-Treanor!
21Shawn Johnson tops my list.
22Bolt was amazing, but a bit of a jerk. I prefer Kerri and Misty Mae myself.
23Shawn and her power legs!
24Definitely Nastia, I don't like Phelps.
25RYAN HALL!!!! MY CLASSSMATE THANK YOU VERY MUCH! HE IS AMAZZINNG...

26tie! dara torres is an inspiration, but i gotta represent the hometown with kerri walsh. you go girls!
27I'm going with Rebecca Adlington of the UK - her swimming performance was amazing, the first double gold for the UK in swimming in 100 years! And, she broke the longest standing swimming record, plus she's really nice and down to earth. Here's hoping her success with inspire the UK to really put money and time into developing swimming.
28Nastia!
29Aw man, only 6 votes (including me) for Clay?
I picked him cuz he went to the school just up
the street from me, and he lives in the general vicinity too.
30In the "other" category I would pick Nick Symmonds who qualified for the 800m since he went to the same school as my husband. Too bad his strategy didn't work for him in Beijing!
31I'm not really a fan of Phelps. I loved Usain Bolt, he's just amazing! I love Kerri and Misty too
but overall, i'm going with Rebecca Adlington, she was absolutely amazing. I've become a huge fan of hers.
32I voted for Usain bolt. The man broke world records and did that wish such ease!
33I also respect Phelps for his achievements.
Nastia, because last year everyone counted her out and she came back with a vengeance! The rivalry between her and Shawn was so much fun all year. Plus she is by far the most beautiful gymnast I've ever seen.
34this was a hard one, but i picked dara. shes amazing.
35it's a huge tie! i can't pick between phelps, torres, treaner and walsh, johnson, and bolt. they all were fantastic.
