We all have a hard time deciphering portion sizes, especially when we're eating off a large plate, or even wedge shaped foods. There are some pretty simple ways to measure portion sizes but sometimes even that is too confusing.
One very simple technique for figuring out how much you should eat is using this simple diagram from the Daily Bureau of Canada.
Easy enough, right?
Did you notice half of the plate is dedicated to veggies!!! I didn't think you missed it, but I just wanted to hit that point home.

Mmm half plate o' veggies! What would you consider an alternative to meat? Would that be like a veggie burger type idea? Or something like tofu? I'm very clueless with these things.
1yummy!!!!!!
2What's the Daily Bureau of Canada anyway? Never heard of it.
3i like that, i've heard of that very often, and i try to follow that...but it's a little weird because most people don't eat like that, you know?
4That's how my mom's dinner plates always looked except the were also color-coded. We had to have a two veggies: a green and either a orange, red or yellow veggie as well then some grain/starch thing then the meat. She learned that way back in 1950 in during her home-ec based high school education basic family meal preparation and she never strayed.
I asked my nutritionist about my mom's mean plan/the Canadian meal plan and heck - Mom was dead-on. Good job mom!
5All so simple in theory but in reality I just want to stuff myself!
6I eat pretty much like that anyway so I'm quite happy with my diet. Well i think one can cheat occasionally by thinking chips are healthy vegetables so you can half a plate full with steak and rice!
7Where's the portion for cookies/cake/pie?
