No pain, no gain? This old saying may be true even for the most genetically blessed among us — Victoria's Secret Angels. They may have great genes, but these lingerie models subscribe to the glue that binds goal-oriented women: hard work and discipline. Last night we saw the bombshell VS models rock the runway on television, and it took more than a few workouts for them to look so toned.
Doutzen Kroes recently became an Angel and acknowledged that, while she usually eats what she likes, before a big show she nixes sugar and carbs and dedicates more time to jumping rope. She said, "For other fashion shows you can be skinny, but for Victoria's Secret, you need definition." Another newbie to the Angel crew, Marisa Miller, also understands the VS message and said, "When you're on the runway, you're moving so it's all about toning up." Mission accomplished.
It's encouraging to know that, while these gorgeous models have a genetic edge, they are still human and have to put in extra work to achieve their goals. Next time you're struggling through an intense workout, remind yourself that you're not alone.

Wow she looks amazing in that photo.
It's nice to see she does have some muscle in that photo -- she has toned thighs, not stick-skinny ones.
She looks good, fit, and toned. I watched the entire show and VS has returned to more fit, curvier models than last year except for the Pink segment. The models were a little thinner in that section.
I liked her comment about focusing on being fit and toned rather than just being thin.
All of the VS models last night were definitely thin but all of them looked healthy, fit and absolutely amazing.
Oh yea I love how these girls look! They have rockin' bodies! Not stick thin models!
love them! the VS fashion show was so hot last night!!
It's about time! It's true, the Vicky models look so much hotter than say... Kate Moss. I sent the article to my trainer because he says he has a lot of trouble with women saying they don't want to strength train because they don't want to be "manly" and these models are proof that muscles can be sexy!
women can't even get "muscly", it is physically impossible unless you take steroids.
Doutzen doesn't have a runway model's body anymore, so it's good that VS scooped her up and made her an Angel.
Yeah, it's nice to see some tone. Enough with the stick-think models!
I love the Victoria's Secret models because they embrace looking fit, and want to be toned for the show. I found a more detailed report on their exercise routines here - http://celebritiesanddiet.blogspot.com/
I've always loved the angels because they're not starved-looking.
I was disappointed that they didn't show more of Inguna Butane, Abbey Lee Kershaw, and Arlenis Sosa Pena. They focused way too much on Marisa Miller- who is NOT pretty at all...
sophiebella, I think Marisa Miller looks like Jessica Simpson. Blech.
I have to say that is nice to hear.
I love the fact the VS models have such amazing bodies! I hate seeing girls on the runway where you can see their bones... ew.
I like Marisa Miller! I remember when she used to be in the JCrew catalogs and thought she was so pretty!!
I like that she's so fit and healthy but not scrawny! Its so much more attractive than stick-thin models. However I don't really find VS models inspirational (body wise, of course, but they are PAID to exercise and have a very strict and simple diet, which I already do). It's not difficult at all to do what they do. And it's mostly genetics. Even if you followed the exact diet and exercise regime of one of them, it wouldn't most likely produce the same results.
While some of them must inherently have great bodies, I can imagine how much pressure there is for the VS models to be super-fit, since practically every body part is on display...except for the girly ones, which are enhanced by the lingerie
Just to echo what everyone said here...YAY! sexy fashion models with muscle, definition and strength in their arsenal of womanly weapons. Not stick thin 15 year olds!
I still don't like VS's objectification of women, or their clothes(lack of)
gabiushka- I am not a huge fan of the VS brand either, but I like that they clearly encourage the models to look healthy and fit. Unlike fashion where they will tell a model the "anorexic" look is in this year. Those girls are basically just clothes-hangers. Sexy may be objectification, but it's better than sick.
Agreed, this is a much healthier look than the average stick-thin, muscle-wasting, hunched-over model. But I'd argue that only people of a very specific build / body type will ever look like this - you'd need to be very lean in the first place.
