Have you seen these ads?
Well you won't be seeing them for much longer. The promotional arm of the dairy industry has been asked by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to curtail the ad campaign since research doesn't support the claim. It is not much of a surprise that the initial research backing this claim was partially funded by the dairy industry. The ads suggest that three servings of low fat or skim milk dairy products a day can help people become slim. The “Body by Milk” ad campaign that was aimed at teenagers and featured Carrie Underwood will be curtailed as well.
The FTC will still allow the dairy council to continue asserting that adults and children should not avoid milk and milk products because of concerns that they may lead to weight gain. So the research found three servings of dairy doesn't make you gain weight, which is a far cry from the claim that it helps you lose weight.
I for one love milk and dairy products, but I do not like false exaggerated claims to sell me something.

2just one thing - isn't FTC the federal trade commission?
3Ooooo....scandalous! It seemed like it was true.
4I was pretty suspicious of that campaign. I drink milk everyday (probably 2-3 glasses) but I haven't lost weight on that alone. I hate when they always say "with diet and exercise you can lose weight" well I think diet and exercise is probably all you need.
5I totally agree gumdrops. Isn't that always the case? Everytime I see advertisements for a product - *any* product - that helps you lose weight... they usually have with diet and exercise on the bottom. LOL Maybe because that's all you really need!
6I loooooooove milk. Obviously washing down a Krispy Kreme with a glass of milk is NOT going to help you lose weight, but it does help you feel full for a long time. Just like any food high in protein. I'm a protein junkie, so I will continue my milk drinking ways.
7I think maybe they were saying it from the point of view that it will be good for you to drink milk instead of soda, or have a yogurt instead of a bag of chips. I never interpreted those commercial as if milk miraculously makes you lose weight.
8I never really believed that dairy could burn more fat. I wonder if they're going to pull the Yoplait commercials since they claim the same thing.
9too right annestew82. thanks for the catch on the FTC.
