The annual Victoria's Secret fashion show always causes quite a stir. Alessandra Ambrosio impressed us all with her amazing post-baby body, having given birth to her daughter less than three months before the runway show. Amid the grandiose wings and sexy apparel, did anyone notice that Karolina Kurkova doesn't really have a belly button, but rather a smooth indentation in the middle of her midriff?
Karolina's lack of a belly button caught the attention of the BBC. They are reporting that the Czech model voted the world's sexiest woman by E!, has never explained her lack of a decidedly "innie" or "outie" navel except to explain through her agent that she "is not an alien."

There are a few medical reasons that could leave a person without a navel, but most often it is the result of a corrective surgery at birth for an umbilical hernia, or gastroschisis, a condition where the stomach and intestines poke through a hole in the abdominal wall. Adults may lose their belly buttons during stomach surgeries or skin grafts, and some adults even opt to have their navels surgically enhanced. It comes as no surprise that a model that makes millions a year for her body would occasionally have her belly button, or lack thereof, enhanced via photoshop onto her otherwise sublime abdomen.
Obviously, this small issue isn't hurting Karolina's career or her status. This is one of those small facts that remind us, even angels are not perfect.

5She probably had surgery that got rid of most of her stomach. When they pull down on the skin in order to cut the fat off, it can go up as far to that persons belly button. But the surgeons are supposed to make her a new looking belly button. Like when you have a operation on you breast. They can give you a new nipple so that no one can notice.
Now if she hasn't HONESTLY had any type of surgey, then I don't know what to say about her missing belly button issue.

13i have the same exact belly button! when i was born i had a ruptured navel because the doctors messed up the umbilical cord or something. i always liked it but now i feel kindof embarrassed that people think i look like an alien!

17i can't believe that this is something that people spend so much time worrying about. i know a few people that don't have actual belly buttons as a result of surgeries and things like that. it's not that big of a deal right? i'm sure that if it became a major issue for her (which it obviously hasn't)then she could just have cosmetic surgery to give herself one

She's beautiful why should that be any different because of a problem she had as a kid? 19ps my grandma doesn't have a belly button. she doesn't even have a dent. She had surgery (I think maybe a csection a long time ago) so now she just has a line/scar across her belly

22It is weird looking, but I don't care. I don't usually care about models, and as a whole they are very strange looking to me, but I've always liked her. She is always smiling and looks happy and friendly, so it is no surprise to me that she is voted sexiest woman. Despite what most women seem to think, if you take someone who is beautiful and sullen and someone who is so so but is nice and friendly and outgoing, the sweet girl will always be more popular with men than the other. Karolina's big smile makes her beautiful.
23Wow I absolutely can't believe someone would comment that this should make her "freaky" and not "body-perfect." I seriously don't think belly buttons are that big of a deal, and since she has an indentation she probably looks normal on the catwalk, and it can be easily photoshopped into photos. Little imperfections make people unique, not freaks.

26Just because she had surgery when she was a baby does not make her an alien or a freak. Beauty comes in all different sizes and shapes. No one is completely perfect.
27Purple- you can construct belly buttons WITH plastic surgery, so I would assume if a supermodel got plastic surgery on her stomach, she would throw in the belly button reconstruction also.
Apparently she didn't think it was as huge of deal as it is to the people who said "ewwww" on this board!
28I don't think she ever had a very distinct belly button, but I do think she probably got some work done. She was blasted a couple of months ago for doing a runway show with about 15-20 lbs extra on her (which makes her like normal people skinny

I read postings on another site where others stated that there are people out there who don't have a belly button as a result of hernia surgery during their infancy. So maybe the same thing happened to her. But the problem is that she is a model and these things can come out in the media.
This has been a crazy year for her with that whole "too much weight" thing earlier this year in Brazil and now this.
Well, at least her rep was honest about her belly button. She is not a freak or alien, just a human being.

31Graylen, on Huffpo there are pictures of her belly button from the VS show last year. It looks exactly the same. Sheesh, bellybuttongate, you know women hate themselves when they pick apart a VS model's belly button!

41My mom had a hernia when she was young, had surgery, and now she doesn't have a belly button. All you people saying eww, gross, etc. are horrible. Tell me you wouldn't kill for her body! Come on!
