Since many of us travel home the weekend before Thanksgiving, I wanted to offer this word of caution. Even though this holiday is centered around warm, scrumptious food, and an incredible bounty of desserts, remember to keep the feasting to one day. Ditching your diet and splurging for the holidays is encouraged in my book, but remember that each holiday only lasts a day or two. Celebrate the holidays, not the entire eight-week holiday season starting with T-day. Enjoy your favorite foods but avoid a binging fest from Thanksgiving till New Year's.

I fall for this quite often. Christmas dinner it starts with "taking a day off from my diet" but then it's also "just one more day, it won't hurt". Well, in the end it takes quite some time to get the christmas weight off again.
1this is a very good point. a lot of people seem to think that if they are home for 4 days then it means that they can eat the whole time but that's not the case. i'm going to my fiance's family in texas and they ALWAYS make so much food for us to eat, and i don't want to be the future daughter in law that never eats, but i have to make an effort to not eat a lot. we'll see how successful i am this year.
2Yep, Thanksgiving lasts only one afternoon for me. I actually don't even really eat the leftovers. I do save a bit of turkey to put on salads and on sandwiches for a couple of days, but my husband usually eats the other things so I don't get tempted.
