There are so many different types of gyms out there, from the no-frills gym with basic equipment and a ladies locker-room with no special touches, to the fancy gym with all the newest machines and sophisticated classes (not to mention the spa-like locker room).
Because gyms run the gamut in what they can offer, membership prices cover a huge range — you might pay $25 while your girlfriend pays $250. Not everyone has a gym membership and it's more than possible to get into great shape without paying a cent, but for those of you who do pay a monthly fee, how much does it cost?

My apartments have a free gym, so I guess what I pay towards upkeep is included in rent, which is convenient.
1My hubby is in the military.. So the gyms on base are free!
2I pay $10 a month, with no commitment, which is perfect because I'm away at college so I'd hate to have to pay for months I'll be at home - at which point I'll have a gym free to use in the apartment complex.
3free! (It comes with the apartment).
4My apartment building has a Technogym : ). Loves it cuz otherwise gyms in NYC like Equinox and even NYSC can run well over $200.
5I live too far from my school to use their gym for free, so I joined a bare bones chain called Fitness 19. It's $19/month and they have a good assortment of cardio and weights, just in a small space and without showers.
6In the UK you can pay A LOT. And they are often year or two year-long contracts. I have a six month contract at a local leisure centre gym which gives me unlimited classes, swimming, sauna and anytime use of the gym. It's well under $50 per month and I get my money's worth every week! I think it's subsidised by the council but I can't knock it, it's far nicer than most of the other gyms I've been to and the friendliest by miles.
My gym at uni was great but nowhere near as friendly: but I spent more there than I do now as I was on 'pay as you go'.
7I have a gym @ my work; 6.95 is deducted from each paycheck
8My 3-yr contract finally finished this past summer, so now I'm paying ~$20. It used to be about $55.
9$19.99/month
10Got a small little gym at my complex and I also have a gym membership that costs about $39.99/month. It includes a bunch of weights, machines, classes, pool, racquetball court, spinning class, steam room and a basketball court. I love it.
11as long as i go to the gym 8 times a month, our health insurance pays for it. (i go much more than that of course!) otherwise i think it's $40 a month but i am not sure???
12$80.00 / month.
It's a lot, but it has an indoor/ outdoor lap pool (25 m) and it's 5 minutes from my house. Worth it !
13I don't belong to a gym right now, my apartment has some treadmills and weights, my university has a free gym where I run on the track, and sometimes I run outside. I'll join a gym once I graduate, haha.
14$45/month... I get a deal through work. If I didn't have this deal it would be $90/month, so I feel lucky
15Mine's $70/month (and it's not even a very nice gym; welcome to NYC), but my employer reimburses $500/year for gym fees, so paying the difference is not much of a burden.
16$65/3months for the basic workout room at the park. There is a pool too. $105 a month for yoga here and there.
17There's a small fitness center at my apartment complex. It's very no frills, but it works for me.
18$170 plus tax. I live in NYC.
19it's been years since i belonged to a gym. i've fallen into a nice routine of doing as much outdoor exercise as i can. we have a little gym at our condo complex that i use to "fill in the blanks".
problem is, the personal trainer who has been helping me tone up for the past couple months keeps telling me i'm outgrowing what's available at our little free gym...so i guess i'm going to have to join something soon. convenience is key for me, so it's got to be something close to home. maybe i'll wait for all those year end/new years resolution specials gyms always have...and start going in january like EVERYONE else, lol.
20$30/month for both my husband and I.
We live in a teeny tiny town and there's only one gym. It's small and certainly no frills, but has all the equipment we need.
21Like supercoolnat, after my 3-year contract which was $27/month I've been paying less per month, but it has increased steadily over the years and currently it's $12.70/month. On top of that, for the Power Pacing (spin) class we have to buy wristbands which cost $29 for 10 bands.
22$200, I live in NYC and the gym closest to my apartment is one of the Equinox flagships to which you have to pay all access to belong so I basically shell out the biiiiig bucks for convenience. It works out though because it's all access so I can use the Pure yoga studio across town if I want and if I go to any other city that has an Equinox when I travel, I can use those too.
23$170 / month for Equinox in NYC -- but well worth it!
24i decided i'm better off investing in home equipment
so i wuit my gym.
25quit...
sorry
26$45 a month, one-year contract o/
27I pay £24.50 a month in a couple's membership and the nearest gym SUCKS! It is the local council gym and OH MY GOD I HATE IT SO MUCH. I used to be a member of the virgin gym's as a student and it was £39 a month. My boyfriend can't afford this much so I dropped my virgin membership and enrolled at the cheaper council gym.
Arggggghhhhhhh... I want my spa area back!
All I need are the simple things in life! ROFL
28BUTLER! Bring me my champagne~
$16.66, I live in NYC.
29My husband and I have been toying with joining the new YMCA near our house, esp. because we're not sure if we'll stick with it and there's no contract. but it's a fancier Y so they're charging much more - it would be $85/mo for the two of us. We'll prob do it if they run a no-joining-fee special.
30I think we pay about $80 a month, but that's for both my husband and I, towel service, and the use of the daycare area for both of my daughters. My gym has a pool, spa, steam room, women's only, cardio room, weight room, aerobics room, spinning room, circuit room, and tanning which I never use! I think it's a pretty good deal.
3120.00 a month and there were no sign up fees!
24 hour fitness. They have crazy deals on the day after Black Friday- I think it was called Electronic Saturday or something.
32$47.99 a month for 24 hr fittness. allows me into any gym and such. some of the ones i go to are pretty nice and then there are the ones lacking in good equipment. i take advantage of the classes offered too. Cycle, shadow boxing, water aerobics and pilates. . . i want to get my money's worth out of the darn thing each month
33I pay $170 at the East Bank Club in Chicago. It's like the mecca of all gyms...whatever you want, it has...and then some. In fact, it's the same gym that President-Elect Barack Obama belongs to, so that's kind of a cool perk. Hahaha! (There have been Secret Service parked outside on some weekday mornings, as Pres. Obama is still working out there before he moves down to D.C.!).
34Mine's $64 to use the amazing college gym when I'm not taking classes for that semester...
But SUGAR, we've already done this poll before!
35$120 for Hubby and me to go to any YMCA in the area (silicon valley so thats pretty cheap) - and then hubby pays an additional $10 a month for access and locker at his work gym.
I am SO not looking forward to the month of January when it gets crowded for 30 days as people attempt to meet new years resolutions. It always throws off my schedule since I have to wait for machines when normally its empty in the mornings.
36My hubby and I pay $9.00 each ($18.00 total) a month. We live in the Silicon Valley. Our gym isn't fancy but it has a large machine weight room, another large room for free weights, a room for all the classes and a TON of cardio machines. And yeah, gyms are *always* crazy in January! LOL
37I think Costco has a deal on their website for a 24-Hour Fitness membership for 2 years for $289. If you're paying much more than that, you should check it out!
38I bought an elliptical, and I have a set of handweights. I figure that's enough for me!
39$39.99. Golds Gym
40I pay $22 a month. However, I'm thinking of canceling it. This year, I've been attending dance studios more often than the gym.
41300
42The Gold's Gym near my house used to be $50/mo. I've been very on-and-off with them lately, but they dropped their rate down to $20/mo recently due to dwindling numbers. So I signed up again! I'm so grateful I don't have to pay hundreds of dollars a month for a gym membership... I wouldn't do it.
43I pay $30 a month because I've belonged to the same one for years and they let me keep my price even as their prices went up to $75 a month. I'd be willing to pay more for a better gym (like Equinox) if there was one close to where I live.
44free ... as I teach at a gym
45I teach aerobics, so I've never paid for a membership at any of the super nice gyms I've worked at!
46$25 a month, 2 yr commitment.
47We pay $70 for a family plan (my husband and I plus 2 sons) at our local gym. It has towel service, tons of classes, sauna, etc.. And, my husband also has a LA Fitness corp. membership because he travels for business weekly. We use our new local LA fitness to get a change of scenery. His membership is $24.
48I have my own "home gym", but I also belong to the gym at work so I have access to the weights and they teach free classes. I have the membership fee taken right out of my paycheck...$9.50 a check. It's a pretty good deal considering all the amenities it has.
49free! we have any amazing 1yr old state-of-the-art fitness center at my office, lap pool, soccer field, 1.3miles running loop . . and it's so convenient for lunch workouts!
