We're all feeling the effects of the recession right now, and many of us have had to buckle down on how much we spend. Since nutritious and wholesome food costs more, we may not be able to afford it, and are turning toward cheaper alternatives. People who were used to frequenting pricier sit-down restaurants are now opting for crappy fast food to save money. That translates to an increase in sales for McDonald's. Their sales are up 8.2 percent, which is a huge deal. I guess when the credit market froze, it didn't stop McDonald's-lovers from "Lovin' It" even more. Who could pass up the dollar-menu with this economy? It's disheartening that McDonald's is actually making a profit with this recession.
When was the last time you ate at Mickey D's? Tell me in the comment section below.

Wow I can't remember when I last ate there....All of the fast food joints and even Applebee's and Friday's are offering really low cost options nowadays...even Quizno's! It's getting easier and easier for people to get crappily since the economy is in the pooper and companies have to adjust pricing to lure customers. Not a good temptation for people....but I'd take a good homemade soup anyday over fast food as an affordable meal option.
1I can't remember when I went there the last time, either - probably when I was a drunk student!
I don't know what prices are like in the states at the moment, but over here if I do smart weekly shopping it is way cheaper than eating out at McDonalds every day. So I really don't get why people would be opting for McD's.
Truth be told, I don't eat out often anyway, maybe once or twice a month. So really, I'm saving money in the long run anyway.
2This doesn't surprise me, i know take away pizza sale has gone up too. Cheap ready meal too I bet. I think people are simply too lazy, and being laid off means you have all the time in the world but still they don't wanna cook!
3This doesn't surprise me! But still, that's quite the increase.
I haven't eaten there in... a LONG time. Years. Not sure how long exactly, but I recall it wasn't too long before I stopped eating meat altogether. But even the last time, I barely ever ate fast food before that. I did often as a kid with family & friends, but I was still skinny (although I also played sports). Still... I would NEVER dare eat there again, despite the economy.
4I can't remember the last time I ate here either. Certainly not since I've join the gym around two years ago to finally lose all my pregnancy weight. I do get small cravings for the taste of their trashy comfort food but I don't give in anymore since I know that I will feel horrible right after consuming it!
5It's been a long time since I've been there.
6Well, not all of their offerings are unhealthy. The only time I really go there anymore is to grab a fruit & yogurt parfait as a treat for myself.
7Umm the dollar menu was my friend a couple of days ago. Mcdonalds isnt THAT bad when you know what to eat plus, now-a-days every Mcdonalds has its calorie count right there so you can choose a healthy meal.
8i still don't go to eat fast food even if i'm in a budget crunch. i think the big thing for me is that i don't eat meat and i'm not really likely to go to a fast food place if i need to get a salad but that's just me. i think that it's great that the chain is seeing a lift in sales - we knew that they were getting a lot of heat from competitors out there.
9The last time i ate there would have been finals my second year of law school, which was a year and a half ago.
10I can't remember the last time I ate there either. The only "fast food" places I go to lately are Arby's, Chik-fil-a, and Subway quite a lot. But I find it easier to get something healthy at those places - healthy and appetizing.
11I was there last year to get a Mcflurry, but the rest of their offerings I haven't had in years.
12And yeah, people are lazy to cook.
13I don't eat there. I haven't in years. And it's easy for me to cook and have leftovers. I only eat out once a week anyway.
14hmmm i stopped in for a hash brown and coffee the other morning, and the guys upstairs at my office bring us caramel iced coffees from McD's sometimes, cause they're soooo yummy. (the iced coffees, not the guys upstairs
)
15My husband and I ate their while we were still unpacking boxes after our move in August. I hate to admit how much I love McDonald's but I figure once every few months won't kill me.
16I got myself a hot fudge sundae there almost 2 years ago, and my boss brought me a hot apple pie from there a month ago but other than that, I haven't eaten any burgers or fried foods from there in about 5 years or so.....the last burger I ate from there was on a road trip in rural Germany and I think I was just glad to see a familiar sign....
17Every now and then my husband and I go there when we want food quick and cheap and don't have anything in the house. All I can really get is a kids meal though so its not the most satisfying meal for the amount of calories consumed.
18I love Mickey's. I'm not going to lie and say I don't love it. The taste is so familiar and comforting. My fiance and I are probably the ones that are increasing the sales of mcdonalds.
19I don't know the last time I've eaten there. It may be going on 2 years by now. Which is awesome!
20I had fries and a coke a few weeks ago for lunch. Yummm
21I can't remember exactly. Probably 6 mths ago or so? I LOVE McDonalds but I rarely have it.
22I don't eat fast food and I think the last time I legitimately ate a meal from McDonald's was about a year ago when I was visiting my sister-in-law in Colorado. I got a salad with no dressing and grilled chicken, so it wasn't too bad. I still would have preferred to make my own salad at home though...somehow paying over $3 for something I could make at home for half that amount kind of bugs me.
23Ummm...around 2 years ago?
24TODAY- this is so true! sigh
25Our wallets and hearts are suffering. Great times! Actually, I eat at McD's at least once every week or so.
26It's funny how most posters haven't eaten at a McDonald's in YEARS, yet they post on a McDonald's thread. Just a funny thing I caught while reading the posts.
