Since I have allergies, traveling away from my trigger-free home can be frustrating and uncomfortable. Not only do I have to deal with cats on the plane, but new locations mean new plant pollens, dust, and mold. So what's an allergy-suffering girl to do? 
Some hotels, including Marriott, are offering allergy-free hotel rooms, using a system called Pure Room. Visitors can opt for specially treated rooms with bedding, carpets, and AC systems free from contaminants. The rooms come with air purifiers to make breathing easier, and the mattresses and pillows are encased in covers to fend off dust mites. Also, the carpets and upholstery are treated with ozone shock treatment to kill mold and bacteria.
Since it's estimated that one third of people who stay in a hotel end up having an allergic reaction, this is a brilliant and much-needed improvement. The Pure Room isn't available at all Marriott Hotels, but you can call ahead to find out. Each room is only about $20 more a night, so tell me, would you pay more for an allergy-free room?

For only $20, absolutely. Maybe I'm an overly sensitive breather, but I tend to sneeze and wheeze a lot.
1I personally think that they should do this in all rooms and not charge an extra fee for it, maybe raise room prices by $5 to pay for the new equiptment.
2Yes, this is a great idea and cost should not trump comfort.
3I agree with JaimeLeah526. I myself don't actually have allergies, so I don't care either way, but it *is* a good idea, assuming it's not a huge lengthy process to treat the rooms.
4omg would I pay $20 to stay in an allergy free room? you bet I would! i'd pay more than that. living with allergies is horrible and especially on vacay or when you're away on business. you can't have fun or concentrate when you feel terrible. i'll have to try this out next time!
5I personally wouldn't pay for it, only because I never have issues with breathing in hotel rooms. But for people with allergies, this is a really great thing. I'm surprised hotels didn't do this earlier...it really would've brought them a lot more business.
6I wouldn't because I've never had problems, but why not do this to all rooms, like was suggested above? The idea of a cleaner room (and the cleanliness of a lot of rooms IS something I have problems with) is definitely worth a little extra.
7i don't have allergies, but hotels squick me out as it is. so absolutely i would pay extra for a room that'll maybe light up a little less under a black light.
8To sleep better due to PURE air that I breath. It's a "NO BRAINER". I'd pay more. To have a vacation that my kids would enjoy due to a better nights sleep, again, "NO BRAINER". I understand that Wyndham Hotels are installing Pure Rooms in all hotels in 2009. That's fantastic!
9i think that it's an interesting idea but it makes you wonder why they don't clean all the rooms like that and just make it a higher standard? every time i see those things on tv about how hotels don't clean and all that - it makes me very anxious about traveling.
