I used to only shop at health food stores since my mainstream grocery store was full of conventional produce, white bread, and processed food laced with corn syrup. Now I can go to any grocery store because so many of them offer organic fruits and veggies, whole grain foods, local dairy products, and organic meats. 1If I get to go to the grocery store it's either Pathmark or Stop & Shop. I love Stop & Shop, but since I live in NYC it's a little harder to go out to these grocery stores. I usually just go to the small ones near my apartment, which doesn't have as much variety as the bigger grocery stores so it sucks.

4Why am I not surprised Whole Paycheck made it to #1...
Only a select few can shop at Whole Foods because it is so ridiculously expensive. Grocery stores where everything is catered towards rich people should have automatically been disqualified.
I'd like to see a more realistic list.

6I love whole foods, it is honestly not that expensive to shop there, they are definitely revamping the price points and offering many more options of brands which helps the cost stay lower.

9Ugh.. I hate Whole Foods and Safeway. They are too expensive. I don't shop anywhere but Trader Joe's! They have eliminated the middlemen so they can keep their prices down, and most of their produce is seasonal. Plus, they have the best selection of wine and cheese, as well as imported goods at really low prices. French truffles and sea salt caramels for $5 anyone?

11Trader Joe's is the BEST. I have found that I save soooo much money going here, and everything is SOOO much better for you. Down to the veggies-they even taste healthier.
12yeah for real wegmans...i had never been to one before this summer but then my boyfriend who lives in ithaca brought me and we spent many hours there haha

13None of those stores are near me. I think the nearest Whole Paycheck, er, Whole Foods is about an hour away and all the other stores on there aren't in our state. I always shop at Aldi, which carries a lot of produce and they do sometimes get organic things in. I also shop at Pick n' Save, which I think has a pretty good selection of foods and they definitely have a good organic selection. Plus, their prices aren't too bad. I do wish we had a Trader Joe's near us though...I love that store.
14It's about what you buy at each store, not the whole shebang. You can easily look at labels and determine if it's healthy. That's why I shop at different stores for different items. Go to a neighborhood organic market instead of Whole Foods. The produce at these stores (if you have them in your area), tend to be more organic and local than even Whole Foods. And you'll be supporting a small business.

16Whole Foods is the best of the bunch - you can't disqualify it just because it's more expensive. And they are coming out with more and more products on their 365 line, which is much cheaper.
Personally, I shop mainly at Trader Joe's and then whatever I can't find there I get an Whole Foods. Our grocery bills are never under 200 dollars per week (2 adults and 2 kids), but I prefer to save on other things than nutrition.
17i have safeway and albertson within 2 miles of me. but i rarely shop there. i just can't afford it!! when feeding a family of 5 its just not reasonable. but i do agree that safeway does have great produce and a wide selection of organic foods. the only times i go to those two places is only when i need to get a few things.
18We have Fresh and Easy in Arizona, and I practically live there, as it's around the corner from the gym. Super food at a reasonable price. Great organics and nice produce, although it's all packaged and branded so you can't just buy ONE of anything.
19What an absolute travesty this is! It's akin to rating the "The 10 Best Colleges" in the country while considering only the 35 largest universities as contenders! Shame on Health Magazine for handing out such haphazard designations under a reliable-seeming facade! They do a disservice to consumers with their inconsistency and to many deserving designees who have to watch puffed up mediocrity strut its trumped up stuff...on national media outlets, no less.
