Taking a relaxing bath is a wonderful way to reward yourself after a long run or a tough day at work, so while you're soaking in and letting go, why not reap the benefits of epsom salts? The salts are very inexpensive and can be found at the grocery store or the drug store — taking care of yourself doesn't have to be costly! Check out these five things about the salts and tell me, have you ever experimented with them in your bath water?
- Muscle relaxer: Epsom salts are known to relax tight muscles and reduce inflammation. Just add about two cups of the salts to bath water.
- Soak away the toxins: Soaking in the salts can flush toxins from the body.
- Sleep more soundly: Epsom salts are made of magnesium sulfate, and soaking in them can reduce stress and help you sleep more soundly by restoring magnesium levels.
For two additional ways you can benefit from epsom salts, read more.
- Beyond sore muscles: The salts can help sooth ailments as harmless as bruises or as painful as a sprained ankle.
- Endless exfoliating possibilities: No time for a long soak? The salts can also be used as an exfoliator to soften your skin; just get your body wet, rub the salts all over, and then rinse. If you want to focus on your feet, epsom salts can neutralize odor and are perfect for a relaxing foot soak at home.

I'll have to pick up some, I've always wondered about these.
1sounds like something that both the bf and i can benefit from.
2I routinely use Epsom Salts in my bath, they really do work wonders. Plus you can always add a nice lavender bath foam and such right before bed and you'll sleep like a baby!
3Oh yea, I love Epsom salts! If you put some baking soda in the bath with the Epsom salts, it's even more relaxing.
4The Body Shop has an epsom salt soak, it's called Plunge and Purify Bath Soak. It not only smells fabulous, but it works so well. I have back problems, so this is my nightly getaway.
5i've always wondered if epsom salts really did work. problem is, i can't bring myself to take a bath, baths are like a phobia of mine lol. sometimes i want one so bad but then i think about all the reasons i find them to be gross and i stick with the shower.
lol i think i need some professional help
6Jesssa... I totally agree!
7I've been meaning to try soaking with epsom salt, but hadn't got around to it......I'll have to pick some up this weekend.
8jesssa: i always shower before i take a bath... and take time to wipe the bath down before filling up the tub. maybe that would help you factor out the grossness.
9I have used epsom salt baths for years. A few drops of lavender can make it even more relaxing.
10I've never tried these before. I might have to pick some up.
11jesssa, I know what you mean! I think I would enjoy a bath in a new bath tub (like if I bought a new house), but taking a bath in the green or pink fifty year old bath tubs in my house grosses me out! I keep saying I'll have to buy one new tub before we have a child and really have to use it!
12good to know i'm not alone! lol
13and ferret: thanks for the tip
Just one of those things I never bought..but I shall. I think I'd definitely add some essential oil to the bath too like lavender or verbena depending on the time of day and my mood.
14Its been awhile since I have treated myself to a bath, will do in the coming days
15i've read some of these reasons before, but i've never really taken them to heart, but when you see all the great reasons in the same place, you have to think that there's something to it. i wonder if maybe the next time i manage to convince myself that a bath is the right thing, maybe i'll toss some salts in the tub
16jessica, i agree! i cant stand taking a bath. something about sitting where people have had their feet grosses me out. even if i clean clean clean it i still cant do it. but i do use the epsom salt for soaking my feet.
17I didn't know ES could help with sleep... thanks!
18I use these often! after a massage or a yoga class. you can buy a huge jug of it at the pharmacie for under 5$!
19I take an epsom salt soak every night before bed. Publix sells the 4 lb. bags for 1.99. Good stuff!
20I found this site with good info on Epsom Salts! they also sell it but they give a % of profit to kids with cancer. check it out here http://www.bobbys-healthy-shop.co.uk/shop/page/9?shop_param=
