Adjusting to the suddenly dark evenings is a little rough for me, even though I truly enjoy and take advantage of the extra light in the morning. Lack of it makes me a little blue; does it do that to you, too? One way to perk up your mood is to increase the amount light you enjoy on a daily basis. While getting up and exercising in the morning sun for 30 to 60 minutes can help relieve the Winter blues, that can be a tall order, especially when it is cold. Spending more time exposed to sunlight during the day can help, too. So get out and walk at lunch to see the sun during the day.
It might also help to increase the amount of artificial light in your office or house in the darkened evening hours. You can brighten things up with eco-friendly compact fluorescent light bulbs. The light spectrum emitted by fluorescent bulbs has a greater potential to lift your spirits than the spectrum from traditional incandescent bulbs. So make your life a bit more cheery by turning on some lights.

it's a catch 22 if you think about it. you want to go out and enjoy the sunlight in the winter yet at times it can be sooo cold so you just can't bear to go out there. it's a no win situation i think.
it reminds me of the show 'men in trees' where one of the characters needed her sunlight lamp thing.
1In the morning after I workout and shower, I turn on my space heater and soak up the warmth and the sunlight from my "daylight" bulbs. It's just realistic enough to motivate me to get ready for work.
2i need to get a grow light...
....living in portland has its disadvantages at times.
my doc actully suggested it anyways, i really ought to look more into it.
3Does that mean that the oh-so-flattering florescents at work and school should actually be making me happier? Or is it a different kind of florescent bulb?
4I use eco-fluorescents at home in my office. We have dark winters and I work at home so its essential to me, and keeps electricity bills down too.
I do try to make the most of the mornings while we have light as well, and enjoy it before work starts.
5wow, some CFLs would certainly be cheaper than a full spectrum light or a lightbox like they prescribe to Seasonal Depression sufferers. maybe I'll try some...
