I know a lot of you run. I like to run outside and on a treadmill - different forms for different moods. Some runners have really strong opinions when it comes to where they run. I am curious about you...

Outside should definitely be hands down on that question!
1i used to run on the treadmill all the time but since i've moved to the beach and can run on the boardwalk whenever i please i can't run on a machine anymore. i love the wind in my face and the scenery. it was hard at first but i feel like i get a better workout outside. i like the challenge.
2I love being outside and I love looking at whats around me.
3Outside hands down. You've got wind resistance, concrete and hills.
4Running outside is definitely more physically difficult, but it's also much more enjoyable.
5I wish there was another option. I love running outdoors, so it's easier to get myself out of bed to do it, but it's easier on my body to run on a treadmill. Which do I choose?!?
6I'm with ejoy. Running outside is harder because you have hills, wind resistance, different terrain, and weather events. But it is so much more enjoyable than running on a treadmill. Once your body gets used to running ouside, running on a treadmill is so boring.
7I hate gyms! I run or walk outside ALWAYS. It's so much more rewarding in terms of fresh air, scenery and SOLITUDE. I love my peace and quiet. Even more so, it's not natural to run in place.
8I haaaaaate the treadmill, can't/won't do it. I feel like I hyperextend my knees, which I never do anywhere else, and it's boring. Street running isn't much better but trail running keeps me engaged and challenged.
9i hate the idea of going to the gym and running on a treadmill for hours. makes me feel like a lab rat or something.. besides, i can almost feel the brain cells decomposing- it's sooooo boring! i love living in vancouver because we have so much space to run: parks, trails, beaches...
10I love running outside or doing other machines at the gym (i.e. stuff you can't do outside, like the elliptical or stair machine, although running bleachers is kind of like the stair machine, but hard to find a place to do). I ran cross country in high school and I don't think I'll ever be able to convert to indoor treadmill. If I'm working out inside, I like the elliptical the best because it's such a noticeably lesser impact on my joints, etc.
11i used to run a lot on the treadmill and got it down where it wasn't doing much for me anymore, then i started running outside - and omg - it's been quite a workout! i'm loving it and it's been about a year since i've touched a treadmill.. handsdown - there's nothing like running outside with the fresh air and scenery.
12Although I LOVE running outside, I can't always run outside by myself because I don't feel safe. That being said, I find running outside to be a little harder, but loathe the treadmill even though that's what I run on the majority of the time.....I feel like a gerbil on a spinning wheel!
13Also.....I know there has been a post on here about a awesome website to find running trails around your area. If anyone remembers this post will you please direct me towards it! Thanks!
14The treadmill makes me feel weird when I run on it.
And don't even get me STARTED about stairmasters!! Go run up and down the bleachers in your local stadium instead!
15It's harder, but more fulfilling, to run outside for me. Still, I ran on a treadmill for 30 minutes last night as a break for my knees.
And thanks for not being a snob about whether running on a treadmill is "really running" or not. That's such a lame debate. Anyone who gets off her butt to run ANYWHERE deserves praise for the effort!
16I find the treadmill difficult simply because my speed varies a bit, depending on the song on my ipod or whatever. It's not enough to alter my workout, but I have to change the speed of the treadmill and blah blah, plus there's no breeze on a treadmill
17definitely outside!!
18Outside humidity kills my breathing. I feel like I am constantly choking and have no stamina outside. Especially in the summer, Louisiana heat is only good for bike rides.
19I find running outside more difficult but not b/c of the reasons listed. I just think its physically more difficult. Treadmills are much easier b/c the ground is moving for me. Which obviously takes away from the workout a bit, but thats just the truth, its easier for me to run on the treadmill.
20outside is def harder!
21I disagree! Treadmill is so boring and repetative, and so I wind up focusing on how tired I am versus focusing on the pretty houses, or how happy I am to be going downhill, etc.

I completely agree.
Not to mention that a treadmill gives you no excuse to not workout. Raining outside? Not a problem indoors.
One way I spice up a treadmill run is to alternate: One minute I'll run up front near the console and then the next minute I'll go further back. That way you aren't just mindlessly running in place.
23I could fall asleep on a treadmill! I much prefer running outside.
24=D
If you run inside on a treadmill, you're just running for exercise and you're not a REAL runner!
25i have issues with stationary machines. I keep looking at the time and then I get bored...and want to stop because I have that option. At least if you run to a destination or walk...you have to get back to where you started so you cant quit. But I really hate running. I always feel like my pants are going to fall off--my headphones dont stay in and it just sucks. I prefer to power to walk
26outside, though it is nice
27I HATE to run outside, the cold wind in my face is soooooo uncomfortable.. and when it's hot.. even worse!!!
28I love being outdoors though, walking, admiring nature and all, but runninG? no thanks! although I feel like a laboratory mouse, I prefer the treadmill
Treadmill=pain
And besides, running outside is always an adventure. Why would I want to stick my self on a rolling belt? No fun, no adventure. You can always tell the treadmillers, because their shoes are suspiciously spotless
Mine are covered in muck!
