We all know sitting at a desk all day doesn't burn up the calories. There are simple ways to exercise at work, like disappearing into a restroom stall to do some squats, but what about getting some cardio? To work out while on the job, you might have contemplated a treadmill desk, but the size of both the price tag and the desk itself prevents you from asking your boss to spring for one. Here's another, much cheaper option — an under your desk, wheel-less, mini exercise bike. You can stow this model, made by by Stamina ($49), under your desk and pedal with your feet without your co-workers knowing. Or you can place it on top of your desk to conspicuously work your upper body. You can adjust the tension to make it easier or more difficult, and it also comes with an electronic monitor to time your workouts. There are even protectors on the legs to prevent it from slipping on the floor. What a great way to burn some calories while working or watching TV.

What a great idea! I'd be curious to know if anyone else has tried this out.
i think that this is a GREAT idea. i always manage to get to the gym during the day, but i think that if i couldn't swing it, then this would have to be something that i would try. let me know if you've tried it and what your thoughts are. does it make noise? i know that you think that no one will realize that you're pedaling, but i wonder if you can hear it, and then have people wonder what you're doing.
I was actually thinking about getting one of these. But I feel like I would need to not use my rolling chair! Could equal problems for klutzy me
I had one that cost about the same as the one Fit featured here and I did not care for it; it was noisy (whirring, if not squeaking and clunking), awkward, and delivered no apparent results after about a month of using it during most of my workday. It was impossible for me to type, concentrate on the thoughts behind the typing, and work out hard enough to make a difference. However, if I worked from home or was a TV watcher, I might not have been as worried about the noise or the sweat factor....
This could be great for my man..he's totally sedentary during the workday and it's making him crazy. He used to work in an urban area with lots of things to walk to, but now his office is secluded in the country, so he's a lump all day AND they order fattening takeout everyday. So yeah, he would benefit from this.
I love this! Fit, how much does this cost and where do you get it? I didn't see a brand name on this to look it up. Thanks for the great tip/idea as usual!
Oh woops! I just need to read more ;P
I WANT THIS!!!
i so want this for christmas. hell i'll by it before christmas. treat myself and maybe burn off some halloween candy madness. lol.
haha i just got one of these things for post acl surgery
In theory, it's a good idea but you'd have to be sure you don't get too sweaty and gross while you're doing it. I don't sit much at work, so this wouldn't make a lot of sense for me. But I could definitely see using it while watching TV and I'd also use it as an arm ergometer if I had a leg injury or something.
Has anyone used this particular model? I've heard most of these things are too noisy to actually use at work.
Wait- people could seriously do this and still concentrate on work!?
haha sounds fun! I'm always tapping my foot and fidgeting at my desk cus I can't sit still for very long, maybe this would help. I probably wouldn't be able to use it properly though because my feet barely touch the floor when I'm sitting. . . .
I have one under my desk from Sharper Image. It is great in theory, poor in practice. I agree that it is noisy (luckily I can close my office door), and very difficult to concentrate or type when using it.
It is also very hard to use in a desk chair with wheels. When you try to push on the pedals the chair moves around. It might be better for TV watching.
I think it would be too noisy. I'll just stick with my elliptical in the mornings.
I have one at home and I LOVE it. I use it when I'm checking my e-mail in the morning, and after work while playing about on the PC. It's especially nice as you can start and stop as you like without having to 'get motivated' to go to the gym or jump on the treadmill - it's there for anytime. So far it's been GREAT!
