I'm a fan of cereal for breakfast because it's quick, inexpensive, and a great way to add whole grains to my diet. The combination of the good carbs and fiber from the cereal, plus the calcium and protein from the milk make it a healthy breakfast choice. If you look at the nutritional info of cereals, they're all so different. Some are high in fiber but low on flavor. Some are high in protein but high in calories. So I like to mix my cereals to reap the benefits of them all.

Don't just eyeball your cereal parfait because you'll most likely end up with a 500-calorie bowl of breakfast. I take a measuring cup and mix three to five different cereals in it. Choose from cereals that contain at least three grams of fiber and three grams of protein per serving. Each cereal should be around 100 to 200 calories per serving and contain no more than 15 grams of sugar. You'll end up with a custom-made cereal that has a variety of textures and tastes, and it will also be full of fiber and protein.

A woman after my own heart! I mix my cereals all the time - helps keep me from getting bored of the same-old-same-old. My favorite combo is Kashi Heart to Heart, Kashi Vive Probiotic (Vanilla Graham) and a little bit of Bear Naked Fruit & Nut granola. Oh, man! Now I'm hungry...LOL
1I started eating eggbeaters and turkey sausage instead of oatmeal or cereal, and it keeps me fuller, but I seemed to be losing more weight with oatmeal or cereal, even though it's the same amount of calories! Sorry, I guess this is just a little off the subject!
2I usually just stick with Kashi Go Lean Crunch (almond and flax seed). It's high in fiber and protein, and I think it tastes great.
3im so going to try this! sounds yummy.
4What an awesome idea! I love cereal too, and the nutrition labels often steer me into the one that becomes my breakfast. At least by mixing them there's a better balance of nutrients.
5i fear all the calories combined. some of the cereals read 3/4 cup is 110 and if u have a 3/4 cup from each one the calories add up. even if it's a 1/3 of a cup seems like a lot. occasionally when i'm in a non calorie counting mood i do mix the cereals and i agree, i love the mixes.
6I mix Fiber One into my other cereals to lower the calorie-density and increase the fiber dramatically. I don't like Fiber One on its own, but I don't mind it if it's mixed in with other cereal.
7I use to do this when I was a kid and mix the different unhealthy cereals ha-ha, I'll have to try it next time I pick up full size boxes.
Easy for to do now so I portion control my cereal is my the single serve boxes and I get a different type every morning and never more then the recommended serving.
8i wouldn't say that it's really unexpensive... yogurt is so much cheaper.
9I do this all the time. I love to eat cereal as a snack and I love those really unhealthy kiddie kinds (you know the ones full of sugar). So I always mix the sugar kind with a super healthy fiber filled one and I get full and a sugar fix. I do this for my daughter also.
10Thank goodness I do this already! I've taken to mixing flaxseed bran with Special K chocolaty delight lately...it's pretty delicious.
11that's really smart actually - i never thought about it, but if i ate cereal i think that i would really consider doing this. no matter what the box says - you don't get the full amounts that you need for your daily supply.
