Do you tend to eat fast and until you are absolutely stuffed? If so, you might want to rethink your eating habits. A new study has found that people who eat quickly and until they're full are three times more likely to be overweight than those who don't.

Try to slow it down during your meals and snacks. Slowing down your eating process will give your brain the chance to realize that your stomach is filling up before you've already eaten the whole kitchen sink. Besides, it's not fun feeling absolutely stuffed, so you may even be saving yourself a bit of discomfort as well.

I actually eat (painfully) slowly. My boyfriend hates it, he always finishes his food way before I do. I do have the problem where I'll be full but if my plate is still in front of me I CANNOT STOP EATING IT. I just can't.
1I think I eat at a moderate rate -- not fast, not slow, somewhere in between.
I don't stuff myself, though. I would feel really sluggish and tired if I did that. Generally, at each meal, I eat at least one serving from each food group. If I have more than one serving from a food group, it's usually from the fruit & vegetable group. This habit is something my trainer taught me to do. It's become a habit now.
2I eat quickly, but I have recently started watching my portions and not finishing everything just because it's on my plate. I'm amazed by how little it takes to fill me up! Last night I cut a piece of lasagna that was about 1/2 the size I would usually eat. It looked way too small to be my meal, but I wasn't hungry anymore after eating it. Lesson to me -- your helping doesn't have to fill up your bowl/plate to be filling. I'm not trying to lose weight, but there's just no point in eating more than you need to feel satisfied. When my husband cooks, he always gives us identical huge portions -- even though I weigh about 105 and he weighs like 175! I'm thinking mine should be prorated based on the weight difference, but he gets his feelings hurt if I don't eat it all (so the leftovers are sneakily given to the dog)
3My boyfriend always cooks but he learned a measure out my food on a scale before putting it on my plate. He's so well-trained. He all into weights and stuff and over 300 lbs so his servings are HUGE!
4Oh...and I eat fast. Habit from being with braces. Eat quickly so you can clean your teeth afterwards and then be able to talk during dinner.
5I usually eat fairly quickly, but I also fill up REALLY easily. If I'm complaining before dinner about being absolutely starving, chances are I still won't finish what's on my plate, lol. I also snack throughout the day so I don't get really hungry all that often. That's probably what has kept me from gaining lots of weight like my parents & brother - I'm the skinny one in my family.
6oops, not the right smiley face, LOL!
7I totally do this but I've been making an effort to slow down.
8I eat really quickly - and I find a good way to slow things down is to remember to put my fork/food down between bites. Not only is it polite, but it makes me much more aware of when I'm full!
9I usually do Sudoku puzzles while I eat. So I end up eating pretty slow because I'm doing the puzzles in between bites.
10Yeah, I should have stopped half way through that gigantic oatmeal cookie after lunch, but it was so good that I stuffed myself. I felt so unpleasantly full afterward that it made it not worth the yumminess of the cookie.
11Lesson learned.
Again.
i've started to eat much slower and sometimes stop to have full conversations in the hopes that my stomach will catch up with my head and i'll eat less. it does work - so although it means that your eally have to change modes during a meal, it's something that your weight will thank you for!
12I love to eat. Period. BUT, I tend to eat slooooowly. I savour every morsel. I never just stuff something in my mouth. I'm satisfied with just a tiny square of chocolate because I nibble the corners. I can eat chips because I eat one chip at a time, just using my front teeth to crunch. For me, the key is to use your teeth, make it complicated. I can make one stick of KitKat last 5 minutes because I bit off the edges first. It sounds weird, but it works. I always get grossed out by those people who can just cram a whole piece of cake or doughnut or handful of chips in their mouth all at once. Good food is a gift, best enjoyed slowly, with time and friends. A 3-hour long meal is just right for me; food+conversation!
13I always have a sip of water between bites. It helps fill you up, and you'll meet your water requirements for the day!
