Nobody likes having gas. It is uncomfortable, makes you feel bloated, and can be super embarrassing when you're in a small room with a handful of people. So I was wondering, what foods tend to make you gassy? Do you eat these foods anyway, and deal with the odorous consequences, or do you avoid foods that make you toot?

Jil Sander
Orlando Orlandini
Farfetch
Sugarless gum! Bloated, like no tomorrow. But gum helps with stress.
1Fit, are you conscious that there is going to be a LOT of comments left here because everyone loves to talk about themselves? And that it is not going to be pretty?
2nuts. and veggies...
3Hah gabiushka, what is it about anonymity that makes us want to spill embarrassing stuff? Oh well, onward with the self-disclosure- broccoli and anything with heavy cream
4milk, and sugary things. If I drink milk, my stomach swells up like I am pregnant! and of course the regulars like broccoli.
5I feel like almost EVERYTHING makes me gassy
6The actual question for me is... what DOESN'T give me gas. Haha.
7grapes ... and I love grapes!
8Nothing makes me gassy. I'm serious, I am just not a gassy person.
9anything carbonated, and most dairy products...yuck
10Sauerkraut and cabbage are the only foods that really give me gas.
11Regular milk. I'm lactose intolerant. I have to drink lactose-free milk.
12I am a very gassy person, its just part of life for me! Plus I'm lactose intolerant and I've just given up all dairy and readopted a vegan lifestyle, and I've already noticed a change!
13i love the sound of a fart! haha. i don't pay attention to what makes me pass 'em more often though.
14Fat, Sugar, and Dairy - esp combined. I have to go in hiding after icecream
Apples on an empty
stomach can also set me off. Also, raw onions or raw garlic. I have IBS, so it doesn't take much to make me gassy.
15Black beans, but I solved the problem by putting a piece of ginger in with them while they cook.
16Asian takeout, but that usually causes burping more than anything else. I think there might be a couple more things but I can't currently remember what.
17Food. All food gives me some level of gas. Even before the GBS, I had IBS/IBD so my poor gut has always overreacted to food and drink.
18Orange juice, especially the SIMPLY ORANGE brand..but I love it anyway..lol
19For those with gassy problems: Gas very often comes from the fermentation of food in your intestines from "bad" bacteria. This bad bacteria feeds on sugar and simple carbohydrates and can make gassiness much worse. Elimination of sugar, simple carbohydrates, and processed foods can do WONDERS for digestive health. Also taking a probiotic supplement. So stay away from sugary foods (even too much sugary fruit), white bread, white pasta, white rice, and processed junk.

dairy and raw onions. it's awful.
21Hmmm... what doesn't make me gassy? Something is definetly wrong with my stomach other than myacid reflux/gerd.
Beans, potato chips (egads it was bad yesterday), cauliflower, brocoli, onions, red meat, sometimes dairy and nuts. . . .
22white wine
23emily is right.....i found that eliminating the processed foods really helped my IBS.
24Onions, broccoli, brown rice
25Popcorn...ugh. But I can't stop eating it anyway.
26Plenty of foods give me gas but one restaurant in our area is a guarantee. Elephant Bar and Grill ALWAYS gives me gas, husband too, no matter what meal we eat. Food is ok so we have no problem avoiding it, however it is right next to where we grocery shop and it smells delicious everytime we are there.
Oh and my homemade egg salad made me so gassy my husband contemplated sleeping on the patio, hahaha, i think I used too much garlic powder. HAHAHA, he loves telling that story.
27Dried apricots. It took me a long time to figure out what was causing it. I like them but I don't eat them anymore because of it.
28Lots of foods that didn't bother me when I was a teenager now make me bloated and gassy. Greasy foods, beans, and raw veggies are the worst offenders. I try to avoid the greasy foods and take lots of Beano.
29QUIZNOS!!
30i cant say more than that it ruins my system for 2-3 days
....
beans, beans and beans, cuttlefish, mushrooms at night, eating late etc. etc.
what helps ? Sparkling water, sodas, coca cola !
31ah yes, and grapes too !
32cooked peppers and garlic...not pretty!
33What Emily said...refined grains are trouble for me. Actually grains in general give me problems, as does too much fiber. If I eat more than 20-30g of fiber it's miserable. If I avoid grains then my digestion is usually perfect, but they are just so delicious
34TMI, but I have IBS, so everything makes me gassy and sick.
I take these pills everyday that make things bare-able but here's a nice list of things my doctor has restricted or limited (a lot):
-dairy (so that means no ice cream, cream cheese, butter, ranch dressing, and you get the idea). The worst part of this one is, most everything that taste good has dairy in it but honestly, I've been dairy free for 6 years, so I've learned to work around it and make it work for me! Also, medications like a C-Pac for viruses have dairy coated pills, also key words like casein, whey, lact-anything give you a hint that it has dairy alll up in it!
-Veggies like onions, broccoli, cauliflower, bell peppers, hot peppers, cucumbers, and etc. SUPER GASSY !
-No soda
-No caffeine
-No Chocolate
-No bread
kill me now! hahaha
35cauliflower, brussell sprouts, popcorn
36nuts and eggs
37junk food + pepsi
38Bahaha! I love this post. Mine is coffee, weirdly. I can only drink it when I've had a late night and really need it, but it always gives me the old bubble-guts.
39Wow, I love that you're all so open.
40Garlic, apples, pears, dairy products, and beans. But I eat em anyway.
41beans give me gas especially lima beans, but i love them!! just try to eat them in small portions so it won't bother me as much:)
42Anything really greasy (like a polish sausage) and sugarfree stuff especially splenda - that is the second bloaty kind that hurts for a long time. Its horrible!
43Oh man,Kashi Go Lean, I always feel so bad for my coworkers when I eat it for breakfast!
44i completely stay away from pea soup. many years ago, it made me so bloated and i was in so much pain that i had to go see my dr.
45recently, it is any kind of meat: chicken, turkey, beef. i have noticed this after my pregnancies
the regular culprits such as beans don't seem to affect me
so now i am eating more vegetarian meals

Bananas, peanut butter, garlic, onions.
48I've had to give up all fried foods
but I feel so much better! My stomach also gets seriously
irritable if I eat at a place that has too much fat in the food - I'm really sensitive to fats and oils...
