Growing up, we handed out the same candy every year — Smarties and Starbursts.
While I have a huge affection for these two treats, my mother can't stand them. For her, these candies rated zero on the temptation scale, unlike her favorite Snickers bar. So follow this age-old advice that I learned from my mom: Hand out Halloween candy that you don't like. Don't bring the temptations into your home where they can taunt, tease, and trick you.
I know it seems sacrilege, but the candy that tempts me the least is the Halloween favorite candy corn. Can't stomach buying candy you hate? Then wait until the last minute to buy it so you aren't too tempted. Tell me the candy that you can keep in your house without eating in the comment section below.

I'm not buying candy until Halloween morning. Why have temptation in the house?
1im with you on the candy corn, i really want to like it put i just cant stand candy corn. i live on a busy road though so i dont really have to worry about trick-or-treaters
2Mmm - I love candy corn. I'd probably hand out cans of pop if I wanted to hand out something I didn't like. But I LOVE having bite-sized candy and I usually have it in the house all-year round because then I can have little bits of candy (ok, chocolate) without eating a whole bar. I'm making a trip to Wal-mart on Saturday to get the 1/2 price Halloween leftovers. It's like trick-or-treating for adults!
3I also hate candy corn. I cannot for the life of me figure out why people like that stuff... ew.
4Candy corn is ok.
I stopped buy candy for Halloween a few years ago because there were too many times no one would show up. Why have all that candy in the house if no one will show up and you do not really eat it, becomes pointless to have around.
5OMG! I absolutely hate candy corn!
That's a good tip FitSugar. I will keep it in mind when I buy candy.
6When I was a kid we use to hand out microwave popcorn but unpopped. we had so much leftover from my brother selling it for boys scouts.
7I think my mom always bought a ton of EXTRA candy just so she could eat all the leftovers. We always gave out really great candy when I was a kid...sometimes we'd raid the leftovers and add it to all the stuff we raked in during Trick-or-Treating.
But I buy crappy candy that I hate...those little peanut-butter kiss things that come wrapped in orange and black waxed paper. My husband happens to LOVE them, so if we have extras, he eats all of them.
8Yes! My parents always bring fruity candy to hand out like lollipops and starbursts, and I'm a chocolate eater, so this really works out for me!
9I've done this for years. Buy last minute and buy items I don't like. This year, I'm going one step further and not buying candy at all! We're going to a "safe trick or treating" event at a local mall so we won't be home to hand out candy.
ps I love candy corn lol but I'm doing my best this year to avoid it! I've put too many hours into the gym and nutrition to have it all go to waste for the Holidays
10I think I'm doing pretty good by only buying my Halloween candy a week ahead of time! But I do force myself to get rid of it right after the holiday. If I'm around those tasty little over-processed globs of cheap chocolate too long I get a bad sugar addiction.
11Pretty much the only candy that I can't have in my house/dorm room without eating it is Reese's Cups. Those are my weakness. Anything else I can resist if I want to, but that peanutbuttery goodness is just too much. And I can't eat just one, either.
12We don't really celebrate Halloween in NZ, so won't have to worry about buying lollies this week, but in general, I do the same thing. I'm allergic to nuts and can't eat gelatin since I'm vegetarian, so I'll usually buy or bake treats with nuts and gummy lollies, etc, so I couldn't eat them even if I wanted to.
13Oops, I didn't mean to imply that no one will be buying Halloween treats; I'm sure some people do trick or treat or have Halloween parties, but my family in particular and probably MOST people don't really do anything special for Halloween.
14I could buy most any candy (except really high quality chocolate) and not eat it, I'm just not a real sweets person. The only food I can't keep in the house is pasta!
15I give out little 1 oz. containers of PlayDoh. No temptation there, except maybe to smell it...brings back memories!
