Yoga is over 5,000 years old, it's one of the oldest forms of healing therapy. Humans were not the first to do yoga. Are you surprised? Way back in India, animals were observed in nature, and noted for their particular abilities and accomplishments. To imitate these qualities was considered a high sign of spiritual enlightenment.
Many postures require you to "be" an animal, such as in Frog (Squat) and Camel pose, in the hopes that we can emulate their skills and power.
Yoga poses also came from other things in nature. That's where we get Mountain and Tree pose.
Now I'm just guessing, and correct me if I'm wrong, but this photo of a lemur probably took a detour in Photoshop before getting to us, but these other animals doing yoga are definitely for real.
