I know the idea of snacking may seem like a great way to gain weight, but if you have a few smart snacking tactics under your belt, you'll actually be able to slim down. Check out these snacking tips from MSNBC.
- Stop constant cravings: Most snackers reach for something unhealthy to nosh on but the problem isn't necessarily the type of food, but rather how much they eat. You can still satiate your sweet tooth, but just enjoy so in moderation. Enjoy one small square of dark chocolate instead of the whole bar, or two spoonfuls of ice cream instead of half the pint.
- Liquid calories: Other beverages besides water can really rack up the calories. I'm not saying you should eliminate coffee, tea, or juice, but just be mindful of your calorie intake. Opt for water most of the time, so you can consume your calories in a more satisfying way with actual foods you crunch or chew.

- Prepare for snack attacks: Sometimes your need to snack comes at you like a brick wall, and that's when you can end up reaching for the most convenient, and usually most unhealthy snack. So it's a good idea to stock up on whole grain, high-fiber, protein-packed snacks at home, in your purse, or in your desk drawer. Bags of nuts, dried fruit, granola bars, and fruit are easy to keep around.
- Think baked, not fried: Choose healthier versions of your favorite snack foods. Baked potato chips or soy crisps are a much healthier option than regular potato chips, and nonfat yogurt is a better option than ones made with whole milk. Also, choose whole grain crackers and pretzels as opposed to the ones made with enriched flour.
- Nutritious nibbles: If you get used to choosing healthy options like cheese sticks, yogurt, fruit, veggies and hummus, and nut butter on whole wheat toast, it'll become more of a habit. You'll soon realize that these kinds of snacks will give you more energy and curb your hunger more effectively than snacks filled with sugar and bad carbs. If your hunger is curbed, than you won't need to eat as much during the day, which will help you slim down.

I eat a snack every afternoon...usually a banana and a cheese stick, or cheese and peanuts...something healthy.
1I usually have a piece of chocolate with my morning coffe or in the afternoon and that really helps me to stop craving chocolate the entire day.
2What I find the easiest to go through with is cutting out drinks high in calorie. Checking out all sorts of different teas can be fun too, it doesn't always have to be juice or soda to taste good.
I agree with Witchy Ways. Cutting out soda was one of the best ways for me to cut calories when I wanted to lose a few pounds. Sure, it's really hard at first, but now, if I even have a drink of soda (diet or regular) it is way too sweet. I try to stick to one or two cups of chai tea in the morning, water, and light soy or rice milk.
Good tips, though! It is so hard to curb snacking when you are so used to letting those cravings run rampant.
3As long as I keep up on my water intake I can usually avoid unhealthy snacks. But as soon as I start slipping, it's all downhill from there...
4I have nutritious nibbles around constantly....so much that I crave a little variety every now and then. Especially now that it's October and so much candy lurks in the stores!
5I am a snacker. I find myself sometimes just being hungry for no reason, most of the time I'm just bored. Today I actually did something on this list. I put some nuts and dried fruit in a sandwich bag this morning to snack on throughout the day when I get the munchies. I agree with chicchick though...once you slip you just keep slipping.
6I just had my mid-morning snack. Today it was a granola bar. And when I get sick of drinking water, I add one of those Crystal Light individual packets to it. Those things are great. For my afternoon snack, I've got carrot sticks and garlic hummus (so no kissing for me today!).
7i'll be happy when my mom goes back home...when we are together...we eat....once she's gone..i'll lose 10 pounds...i gotta get back to drinking my WATER!!!
8I snack on baby carrots! Yumm. I've been known to eat the whole bag in a day.
9I like to snack on almonds(in moderation!)...plus I drink lots of water, I find it really does help.
10I love packing snacks. One of my favorites is frozen edemame - I pack some in a plastic bag and by the time I am hungry the edemame has defrosted and is ready to eat! I also do craisins, carrots, grapes, and lots of fresh fruit. Quaker Rice Cakes are also a great snack that satisfies my salty urge without too many calories.
11I'm a fruit fanatic, i pack a couple baggies full for work and when i get hungry i grab one of them. I don't have access to junk food at work (and not packing it) makes it nice too.
12I find that having a cup of coffee with a little Splenda and cream does wonders for curbing my sweet tooth. It's almost like dessert, but with way fewer calories. It keeps me from hitting the candy jar at work.
13i m totally into healthy diet!
14I took a photo of myself every single day during my 3 month diet where I lost an incredible 4 stone, then my brother (who is an animator) put them all together and made this film, it's amazing to watch!

15Water is a key factor in my weight loss goal. I have lost five pounds in a week and half by cutting out sodas and snacking on fruits and yogurt. Trust me I have a big craving for a DR.PEPPER as we speak, but i'm doing to good to slip. Plus I still eat what i want but smaller more reasonable portions. The water helps you adjust to the smaller portions... lol all my friends call me water girl.
