Today at the gym I realized that like almost every other day, a crowd of people gather around one of the fitness rooms before group exercise classes. Several people start waiting a good 10-15 minutes before the class starts and I can't help but think what a waste of time that is.
If you find yourself waiting around for a class or machine, make use of that time. Jump on a treadmill and get five minutes of walking in. Do squats, crunches, or lunges. Do anything really. I don't know about you, but getting to the gym can be a difficult task at times so maximize that time to get the most out of your workout. Five minutes getting warmed up is not going to hurt you, in fact it'll just prepare you for the exercise you are about to begin and you'll burn more calories in the end.

I usually hop on the stationary bike right outside the classroom while I wait for my yoga class to start.
1I used to wonder why people lined up so early but now I do it too - otherwise, no mat for class! I'm debating getting a spare mat so I can keep one in my car for the gym but still have one at home in the morning for yoga. I know I'd mess up if I tried to bring mine back and forth (there's already enough stuff leaving with me in the morning - lunch, gym clothes, purse).
2Yea yesterday when I was on my way out of the gym I passed a long line of people waiting to get into a Yoga class. I understand why they'd wait because its really on a you snooze you loose kinda thing.
For classes that are not so popular I would jump on the Leg Press machine or Lat Pulldown machine...well that kinda back fired because I was worn out before the class even started! I couldnt participate as well as I wanted to.
If its a high intense class, I say, wait on the line dont over did.
3The idea seems great, but the truth is st my gym, if you're waiting around its because there is limited space for classes. And I have thought of doing that before, but by the time I'm back I may not have a spot in the class...
Maybe if I ask someone to hold my place for me?
