It seems like almost anyone who's ever had stomach issues for more than a week has been diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome. If you've got IBS then you know it's no fun, but it's also not an excuse to skip your exercise routine. In fact, Reuters recently reported on a new study that found that regular exercise can relieve constipation and feelings of bloating in folks with IBS. So, if you're stopped up, don't stop moving — it could help more than you think.

I have IBS and working out definitely helps my symptoms. Of course, I also try to eat a high-fiber diet that's relatively low in fat to keep my system regular. I've also heard that certain yoga positions can help relieve IBS symptoms, but I'm not sure if that's the case. Any yoga practicers out there that know if that's true?
1This is true, I have IBS and I really see the symptoms lessen when I work out daily.
2I go through yoga phases on and off - doesnt seem to affect my ibs. But exercise in general is always a must! I went 2 days without exercising last week (i was a little sore from over doing it) and as a result . . . lets just say my body went on strike. My normal rule is only one day off.
3So exercise basically makes everything better - immune system, IBS, sex life, etc., etc.? Good. Glad I started doing it then
4hmm..i guess this is a good thing huh? i wonder what the real relationship is if you're working out more - and the whole relieving the stomach issues thing. i know that for myself - i used to have stomach aches a lot, and that once i started working out more and more i would find that they wouldn't be so frequent. i guess it's just another reason for me to continue with my routine at the gym..huh?
5My symptoms lessen when I avoid the foods that cause problems... exercising has never really relieved them.
I'm glad it works for some people though!
6IBS BLOWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i do daily cardio but still at the end of the day even if i eat only a little i look 6 months pregnant before i go to bed.
7IBS is a catch all when they don't know what's wrong with you. Gotta love the ways of western medicine!
8This is off-topic, but I must say I like that cut-off top on that model. It would so cute for dance class.
9lilCROAT--I know what you mean! Is your IBS sensitive to certain meds too? Any time I take Aleve, my system completely freezes up. I have to take Senokot-S (it's specifically designed for medication-related constipation) just to jumpstart things down there. It totally sucks!!
10i have just found out that i have ibs , i find out when i exercize it comes more and hurts more and if i eat crap or little portions my belly goes bloated is there any other thing than exercizing what may help me
11im in soooo much pain
