If your feet aren't happy, the rest of your body is going to have a hard time being happy. Often neglected, our feet sometimes need a little support. I am talking about orthotics. These customized shoe inserts not only support your arch but control the motion of your heel as well, where damaging and incorrect foot patterns originate.

Folks prone to pronation often flatten out their arches by walking too heavily on the insides of their feet, and they can benefit from the support and control that orthotics provide. Stabilizing the joint just in front of the heel, known as the
Too see how much a pair of these foot savers cost, just read more.
I happen to have a pair and think that running without them would cause my feet all sorts of undue stress. You can have these inserts made at some high-end running stores for around $200 or by a podiatrist for $350 or more. First a mold of your foot is created. Then the mold is sent to a manufacturer, and about two weeks later you have an insert for your running shoes. You can generally insert the orthotic into any shoe with a removable insole. So they won't work with slingback heels, but can work with many "everyday" shoes. Ones made by podiatrists tend to be a bit more substantial, and a bit more corrective. The mold should be taken sitting down, with your foot in a corrected neutral position, something podiatrists I feel are better trained to do. Some inserts are made by making a plaster cast of the foot.
Do you have orthotics? Do you love them or hate them?

I have a pair, very expensive but worth it! I don't get the bad shin splints that I used to have without them. I pretty much run pain free which is great!
1if you pronate and need an insert, you can also buy superfeet at running stores. i'm an avid runner, and i swear by them. although they are not molded especially for your foot, but they are suited for something like 90% of people, created by a podiatrist... so if you have a fairly common foot problem, these might work great! i think mine were around $25 or $30. i wear the green runs for max absorption (running).
2i had the plantar fascitis...painful...had inserts for a while, def helped
3I have them and i love them. They took some getting used to but now all my sneakers feel really flat and unsupported if i don't wear them.
4i used to work in the shoe department at Nordstroms and learned ALL about orthodics and inserts for your shoes and i think that for some people they really do make a huge difference. i'm not one to pay all that money for something to be custom made when there are affordable ones out there - but i think that they can really make an impact on your comfort if you do get them.
5I just got orthotics a few weeks ago and I LOVE them. My podiatrist told me that if I go without them I'll be walking on my ankles by the time I'm 40! Going a day without them reminds me of how much they help. They are REALLY pricey, but luckily my insurance covered it all! I love my student health insurance
6I have the kind sold to the general public by superfeet. My plantar fasciitis has pretty much disappeared since I swapped out my original insoles.
7My mom had been having foot pain since last year and it ended up being her arches. She got an special insert from the podiatrist (although not such and expensive or specialized as what you're talking about) and now she's hoping to run a 5k pain free.
8SUPERFEET!! The way to go. A lot cheaper than custom orthotic and what most people can benefit from. SUPERFEET.COM To find a store near you.
