While the debate is still on about whether or not the Starbucks Perfect Oatmeal is worth the $3, user AnnW66 offered this great tip for making it right at your desk.

"If you were just going to work, here's my tip: I keep a box of five-minute oats (or even better, Silver Palate oats) in my drawer. Add 1/3 cup to a bowl or mug and add about 2/3 cup hot water. Let sit five to 10 minutes while checking emails. Add a little more water or milk and microwave two to three minutes at 60 percent. Done. Add raisins, cinnamon, and nuts if desired (I keep them at work as well)."
Great idea — I love that it's just as easy as the instant stuff but with way less sugar. I think I may be buying some oats this weekend to keep in my desk next week. Thanks for the tip!

I eat oatmeal @ work ALL the time! It really fills me up and is quick and fast!
1Is it tasteful or not?
2I eat oatmeal at my desk every day. Fast, hot, tasty, good-for-you...what more could you ask for?
3I do this too! It's delicious. But instead of using the microwave, I just use the hot water button on our coffee machine/water cooler then put in a tad of milk.
4That is a great idea! I usually make a batch of steel cut oats on the weekend and put it in the work fridge on Monday. Then, I just heat up a serving each morning. It's not the freshest tasting sometimes. This would be a great alternative!
5I eat oatmeal almost every single day. Im getting tired of it.
6I do this for breakfast every morning - takes 5 minutes to eat while I work and I'm good to go until lunch time!
7I can only eat oatmeal dry without being cooked and with adding honey to it. I seriously can't eat mushy food in the morning without gagging.
8Whole grain oatmeal and Annie's soups are my go-to office foods.
9The Silver Palate oatmeal sounds awesome - thanks for the link. This is a great idea!
10soo many people in my office have instant oatmeal at their desk in the AM and if it didn't scare me soo much (sitting with food in my stomach all day) then i'm sure that i'd join the bangwagon as well.
11I do this all the time. I usually put a serving of the dry oats into a covered tupperware bowl and pack it in my lunchbox. At breakfast time (I start work at 5 am, so my "lunch" break is usually breakfast for me) I add hot water from the coffee maker and cover the bowl for 5-10 minutes. It's really good and it's a lot healthier than buying a donut from the cafeteria.
12I'm more of an egg kind of girl. Just can't get into Oatmeal.
I've always wanted to like it. I
even buy it at the grocery store, but never make it. what the hell? Is there a better way to down it? I've tried cinnamon and splenda. Maybe I need to try it with fruit.
13I do this all the time. I'm a food addict and have a drawer at work filled with thinks like nuts, granola, honey and peanut putter. Then I bring the extras to work like yogurt, whole grain crackers ect. There's always variety and everything is low GI and filling. perfect for when I'm too busy to go out and grab something to eat.
14Oatmeal is great, but it can get boring. I eat the Quaker low-sugar oatmeal...just add water and microwave for a minute!
