Sitting at your desk for 8 hours a day is a great way to work towards tight hips. Fight back with this desk hip opener stretch.
| This is just like doing Pigeon pose but instead of lying down, you're sitting up.
Bend your left knee and place your lower leg flat on the desk (make sure to clear a spot). Lean your upper body forward a little and try to keep your spine long. You'll really feel this stretch in your left hip and butt. I love it! Hang here for a few breaths or more if you love it, and then carefully switch sides. |

If you really love this stretch, you can work while you do it!
CAUTION: Again, make sure your chair doesn't have wheels!

I don't know how that would fly(no pun intended) at work to be honest...TINA!
1HA! My co-workers already think I'm weird as it is
2Funny ccsugar - then doing this at your desk couldn't make things worse, right?!
3I'm not sure what I would say if I walked by and saw someone doing that at their desk.

5I'm with ccsugar... they think I'm strange already! This will only add to it!
6I love hip openers! I don't care if I look strange - it feels great.

I just did the stretch at work and nobody looked at me strangley. But I would rather do it without my shoes on...which does make it even a little bit weirder. But I will try this when I am working at home.
9That is such a great stretch!!!
10I'm glad i have my own lil cage to sit in so people can't see me! hahah
but even if they did that's ok i wouldn't mind, they know i'm a lil funky anyway. And ladies that's ok at least your back and hips won't be hurting and theirs very well may be!
Just tried it at my desk - feels great! I got my roommate doing it too (after she looked at me weird)!
11We do yoga at work alot. I'll practice a headstand or tree pose and other people will join in. We sit at computers all day so it's good to take a break and stretch. It's great if you're feeling sleepy.
12I love doing a full backbend (wheel pose) to get my energy going! That and headstand are better than a cup of coffee!
13trying it now and it's awesome! I do have wheels on my chair but I'm hoping I don't start rolling.
